🔥 October is Fire Safety Month! 🔥

This week, October 4–10, is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.” Many everyday devices use lithium-ion batteries, so a few simple habits can help keep your home safer:

🔋 Use the charger made for your device.
🔋 Charge devices on a hard, flat surface, away from beds, couches, and doorways.
🔋 Unplug them when they’re fully charged.
🔋 Stop using a battery or device if it looks swollen, damaged, or unusually hot.

While you’re thinking about fire safety, check your smoke alarms and make sure everyone at home knows two ways out of each room and where to meet outside.

A few minutes of preparation can make a big difference. Kachemak Emergency Services encourages everyone to make fire safety part of your routine, all year long. ❤️‍🔥

Today, we pause to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, and ordinary citizens who answered the call with extraordinary courage. We also honor those who have since lost their lives from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

Twenty five years later, their bravery, sacrifice, and devotion to others continue to inspire us. May we never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the families who carry their loss, and the strength our nation showed in the days that followed.

From all of us at Kachemak Emergency Service, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🚧 BIG THINGS HAPPENING AT KACHEMAK EMERGENCY SERVICES! 🚒

East End Road Services is on site today, and WE’RE GETTING NEW PAVEMENT! 🎉🙌

After years of gravel, dust, mud, snow, ice, and Alaska doing what Alaska does best, our station is getting a much needed upgrade!

A huge thank you to East End Services for being out here today and helping improve our station. A solid paved surface means a cleaner station, better access, less wear and tear on our apparatus, and one more improvement that helps us take better care of the equipment we depend on to serve our community.

This project will not delay services being rendered to our communities. Our crews remain ready to respond as always. However, if you come up to visit us today, you might find yourself taking a little detour on foot to get to the station while the work is underway.

Little by little, project by project, we’re investing in Kachemak Emergency Services and building for the future. ❤️🚒

And yes… Chief may be just a LITTLE excited about pavement. 😂

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Kachemak Emergency Services’ 25th Anniversary with us! ❤️🚒

The turnout was absolutely phenomenal, and WE truly could not have asked for a better day. Seeing so many members of our community, families, friends, past and present members, and our partner agencies come together to celebrate 25 years of serving this incredible community meant more than can be put into words.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible, and to everyone who simply showed up to celebrate with us. We are incredibly grateful for the support you continue to show our department. ( Air National Guard)

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Firefighter Leslie R. Washington of Noorvik, Alaska, who passed away while deployed to the Bear Trap Fire near Ely, Minnesota.

I had the honor and privilege of knowing Leslie and working alongside him. His service, dedication, and the person he was will not be forgotten. He will truly be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to Leslie’s family, loved ones, fellow firefighters, and the Noorvik community during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Firefighter Washington. Thank you for your service. You will not be forgotten.

🚑 TEAMWORK IN ACTION 🚁

Sometimes providing the best care for our community means agencies coming together to overcome whatever challenges Alaska puts in our way.

Yesterday, just after midnight, heavy fog prevented an air ambulance from flying into South Peninsula Hospital for a patient needing a higher level of care following a stroke.

When flying wasn’t an option, South Peninsula Hospital and Kachemak Emergency Services teamed up to keep the patient moving toward the care they needed. Kachemak Emergency Services, and a South Peninsula Hospital ER Nurse, assisted with an emergent ground transport from Homer to Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.

Once in Soldotna, LifeMed Alaska was able to continue the patient’s journey by air to Anchorage for further treatment.

From dispatches swift action, hospital staff, to ground EMS, to air medical crews, every piece of the system worked together with one goal: getting the patient where they needed to be as safely and quickly as possible.

This is the true definition of teamwork and interoperability. No single agency can do it alone, especially in rural Alaska. We are incredibly grateful for the partnerships that allow us to work together, adapt when circumstances change, and continue serving our communities and residents when they need us most.

A huge thank you to South Peninsula Hospital, Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center, and LifeMed Alaska for the teamwork and coordination. ❤️🚑🚁
