Please be aware that the Northwest Homer Fire Protection District along with Homer Township Fire Protection District will be participating in a training exercise this morning.

We want to keep our community informed.

On Tuesday, April 28, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Victorian Village will participate in a planned emergency evacuation drill in partnership with the Homer Township Fire Protection District and Northwest Homer Fire Protection District.

You may notice emergency vehicles, personnel, and activity on and around our campus, along with temporary traffic impacts near 143rd Street.

This is only a drill—there is no emergency.

These exercises help ensure we are fully prepared to keep our residents and staff safe.

Even though we are on the northern edge of this threat, we cannot rule out some severe weather tomorrow afternoon/evening. Be sure to keep an eye out for changing weather conditions, have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and know where to go to stay safe tomorrow!

Thunderstorms will rapidly develop Thursday afternoon and push southeastward across the region. Some of the storms will likely be severe with damaging hail locally over 2" in diameter and isolated damaging wind gusts over 60 mph. The highest severe threat looks to be near/south of I-80.

The chances for accumulating snow this evening look to be focused well southwest of the the Chicago Metro Area across northwestern and central Illinois.

❄ More than 2 inches of snow is in the forecast for tomorrow. ❄

Friendly reminder that if it snows more than 2 inches, on-street parking is prohibited until the street has been fully plowed or 12 hours have passed since the snow has stopped. This allows for a clear continuous plow path without interrupting the plow schedule. Please help our Public Works Department by moving your vehicles off the street.

Winter Weather Preparedness Week:

Lake Effect snow occurs when cold air moves across warmer water. Warmth and moisture rise into the air, condensing into clouds that can produce 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour or more. The distance the air travels over the water (fetch) also plays a role in the strength of the lake effect snow band!

Bands of lake effect snow continue across parts of northeastern Illinois and northwestern Indiana. Use extra caution if you must drive in the blue shaded areas.

Light snow will develop this evening across the Chicago metropolitan area, including Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana. This snow is in advance of the more intense lake effect snow which will arrive later this evening. In the meantime, untreated roads could become slick as they become snow covered.

Areas of fog have developed early this morning across northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana (mainly outside of Chicago), some of which has become locally dense. Use extra caution when commuting this morning and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility!
