Homer School District 33-C was established in 1957 through the consolidation of seven one-room schools. The District covers 27 square miles, and its boundaries include portions of the village of Homer Glen, the city of Lockport and unincorporated Homer Township. Approximately 3,600 Kindergarten through eighth grade children attend the schools of District 33-C: Homer Jr. Butler School, Goodings Grove School, Luther J. Young School. The District’s mission “provide a high quality education to prepare and empower students for success in a dynamic world” could not be achieved without the collaborative effort of the entire community. Homer 33C is proud of its involvement in the community and appreciative of the community’s involvement in the schools.

🖌 Butler students and staff celebrated "Dot Day" yesterday in honor of Peter H. Reynolds' beloved book, "The Dot." In remembrance of September 11th, 7th and 8th graders took part in a stair climb during Foundations in Fitness class, which served as a tribute to the first responders who climbed the stairs of the World Trade Center on that day. Wearing pedometers, students stepped on aerobic steppers to reach 2,200 steps--the equivalent of the 110 flights of stairs in each Tower. We're proud of how thoughtfully our students approached this activity.

33C's Professional Learning Communities (PLC) journey launched this summer with the formation of a 25-member Guiding Coalition, bringing together District leadership, building principals and administrators, a school board member--Mr. Oster, our K-4 and grades 5-8 instructional coaches, our support programs coordinator, Special Services Department, and Transportation Department. Together, they're grounding this ongoing work in a shared mission, vision, values, and goals. The overall goal is higher levels of learning for every student. This is just the beginning of the journey that will shape every classroom in the district. Stay tuned for updates throughout this school year!

How tall can you build a tower with just 5 cups, 15 popsicle sticks, and 8 index cards? What happens when you introduce masking tape into the mix? That's exactly what Hadley 6th graders tackled this week in their first Engineering & Design Mini Challenge: The Great Cup Tower! With limited materials, tools, and time, small groups worked through the full design process: imagine, plan, create, test, and improve. Talk about engineering under pressure!

🏗Teamwork takes practice!

Hadley 5th graders in Mrs. Corcoran's class put their SEL skills to work during a hands-on challenge: building a structure out of straws while working together to solve a problem. Students practiced teamwork, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving as they worked in groups to turn a simple pile of straws into a structure.

Sometimes, the best way to learn how to work together is to... well, work together! 💚

🐎Mustangs: Join us in welcoming Tracy Lamont to 33C, as our new Assistant Principal of Schilling and Goodings Grove schools!

Ms. Lamont brings 24 years of experience in education to her new role, including the past 17 years as an educator in Manhattan. For the past three years, she served as a reading specialist supporting fourth and fifth grade students. Prior to that, she taught in Chicago Public Schools, Channahon, and Champaign.

We're excited to have Ms. Lamont bring her experience, expertise, and passion for supporting students and staff to Schilling and Goodings. Welcome to the 33C team, Ms. Lamont!
