🚦 Help shape safer streets in Holyoke.

The City is currently working on two related traffic safety initiatives: the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program and the Safety Action Plan.

Community input is an important part of both efforts. The City’s online Story Comment Map allows you to identify specific locations and share traffic safety concerns you have experienced or observed.

Your feedback will help the project teams build a better understanding of current conditions, identify recurring concerns, and develop data that can help guide future recommendations and priorities.

📍 Have a location in mind? Add it to the map.

🔗 bit.ly/HolyokeSaferStreets

You can use the map to share concerns related to driving, walking, biking, accessing the bus, using a mobility device, riding a motorcycle or scooter, or other traffic safety issues.

The more community input we receive, the more complete the picture will be as these two initiatives move forward.

Slow Streets Save Lives.

🚧 HAMPTON KNOLLS ROAD DETOUR – STARTING TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 🚧

Beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the temporary Hampton Knolls Road detour and associated E.N. White School traffic circulation plan will go into effect as part of the River Terrace Phase A Sewer Separation Project.

Motorists traveling in the area should expect temporary traffic changes and allow additional travel time, particularly during school arrival and dismissal periods.

Please remember to follow all posted NO PARKING restrictions, avoid blocking residential driveways, and follow directions from police officers, crossing guards, school personnel, and other traffic safety personnel assisting with circulation.

The updated traffic circulation flyer and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are available on the City’s River Terrace project page:

https://www.holyoke.org/river-terrace-cso-21-sewer-system-separation/

The City appreciates the patience and cooperation of neighborhood residents, the E.N. White School community, and the traveling public while these temporary traffic changes are in place.

📢 TRAFFIC UPDATE – HAMPTON KNOLLS ROAD / E.N. WHITE SCHOOL AREA

The City has been able to work with Ludlow Construction and the Construction Inspection team to adjust the construction schedule associated with the River Terrace Phase A Sewer Separation Project.

As a result, the previously anticipated August 24th closure of Hampton Knolls Road has been delayed until on or after September 7th.

✅ Hampton Knolls Road will remain OPEN for the start of the school year.

✅ The previously announced temporary E.N. White School traffic circulation and parking plan will NOT take effect on August 24th.

✅ The City will provide additional notice before Hampton Knolls Road is closed and the temporary traffic and parking changes are implemented.

This schedule adjustment will allow E.N. White School to begin the school year under the normal traffic pattern before the temporary construction-related circulation changes are needed. Neighborhood residents and the school community will still experience impacts once the Hampton Knolls Road closure is implemented, and additional notice will be provided in advance of those changes.

The City appreciates the patience, cooperation, and feedback of nearby residents, the E.N. White School community, and the traveling public as this work continues.

Follow the DPW page for additional project and traffic updates as the revised closure date approaches.

Questions regarding the project or temporary traffic plan may be directed to Victoria Houle, Assistant City Engineer, at [email protected].

🚧 TRAFFIC & PARKING ADVISORY – E.N. WHITE SCHOOL AREA 🚧

Beginning Monday, August 24th and continuing through mid-October, upcoming construction associated with the River Terrace CSO Sewer Separation Project – Phase A will require Hampton Knolls Road to be closed to thru traffic.

To maintain safe and orderly access to E.N. White School during this work, temporary traffic circulation changes and NO PARKING restrictions will be in effect in the surrounding neighborhood.

Temporary NO PARKING restrictions will include:

Jefferson Street – both sides
George Street – odd-numbered side
Vadnais Street – even-numbered side

During the closure, school vehicle access will be from Jefferson Street only. There will be no access to or from Hampton Knolls Road for school drop-off/pick-up traffic.

Residents, parents, guardians, school staff, and other motorists traveling in the area should review the attached graphics carefully. The second graphic provides the detailed E.N. White School drop-off/pick-up circulation plan, including vehicle routing, pedestrian access, parking restrictions, and temporary intersection closures.

Please allow additional travel time, use caution in the area, and follow all posted signs and directions from police, crossing guards, school personnel, and City staff.

The City appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents and the E.N. White School community while this necessary infrastructure work is completed.
