Bemis Road Temporary Closure – Monday, October 26 & Tuesday, October 27

Bemis Road, from Northampton Street to Hillview Road, is expected to be temporarily closed to through traffic on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27, 2026, between approximately 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, to accommodate paving activities associated with the River Terrace CSO Sewer Separation – Phase A Project.

Motorists should avoid this section of Bemis Road during the closure and use alternate routes. Access will be restored as paving operations allow and at the end of each workday.

The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and construction progress.

Upcoming Jefferson St Detour, Starting Monday, October 26th

Jefferson Street between Liberty Street and George Street will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, October 26, 2026, as part of the River Terrace CSO Phase A Sewer Separation Project.

Please review the attached flyer for detour, school access, and resident access information. Drivers should expect delays and follow all posted signs and directions from police and City staff.

🚧 PAVING UPDATE – RIVER TERRACE CSO PHASE A PROJECT 🚧

Final pavement restoration (full-width milling and paving) is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, October 19, 2026, weather permitting, on portions of the following streets:

📍 Hillview Road
📍 Meadowview Road
📍 Bemis Road – From Northampton Street approximately 250 feet west
📍 Woodbine Lane

⚠️ WHAT TO EXPECT: Residents and motorists should anticipate temporary traffic delays, parking restrictions, and possible interruptions to driveway access during construction.

📅 Please note: Work schedules are tentative and subject to change based on weather conditions and construction progress.

🚧 ROAD WORK NOTICE – HOMESTEAD AVENUE 🚧

The City of Holyoke Department of Public Works advises residents and motorists that road work will take place on Homestead Avenue near Mayor Drive on Thursday, October 8 and Friday, October 9, 2026.

A private contractor will be excavating the roadway to install new water and sewer services. The work will result in lane closures and traffic delays.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid Homestead Avenue between Lower Westfield Road and Westfield Road and use an alternate route whenever possible.

Please use caution when traveling through the work zone and follow all posted signs and directions from traffic control personnel.

El Departamento de Obras Públicas de la Ciudad de Holyoke informa a los residentes y conductores que se realizarán trabajos de excavación en Homestead Avenue, cerca de Mayor Drive, el jueves 8 y viernes 9 de octubre de 2026.

MassDOT will be holding a Virtual Design Public Hearing on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 7:00 PM regarding accessibility improvements at several locations in District 2, including one location in Holyoke.

In Holyoke, the project involves the intersection of the I-91 Northbound Exit 15B off-ramp and Route 141. Proposed work includes realigning the off-ramp and constructing approximately 500 feet of new sidewalk and pedestrian curb ramps to improve pedestrian accessibility and safety.

Residents are encouraged to review the attached hearing notice for information on how to attend and provide comments.

MassDOT realizará una Audiencia Pública Virtual de Diseño el jueves 29 de octubre de 2026 a las 7:00 p. m. para presentar mejoras de accesibilidad en varias ubicaciones del Distrito 2, incluida una ubicación en Holyoke.

En Holyoke, el proyecto incluye la intersección de la rampa de salida 15B de la I-91 Norte y la Ruta 141. The Department of Public Works office will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day.

🗑️ Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day for the holiday week.

♻️ The Transfer Station will be open on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The City is currently working on two related traffic safety initiatives: the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program and the Safety Action Plan.

Community input is an important part of both efforts. The City’s online Story Comment Map allows you to identify specific locations and share traffic safety concerns you have experienced or observed.

Your feedback will help the project teams build a better understanding of current conditions, identify recurring concerns, and develop data that can help guide future recommendations and priorities.
