Construction Work on George St and Jefferson St May 26th - May 29th
Work will be occurring on both George St and Jefferson St this week and roads will be closed to through traffic with only residents who live in the area allowed through. Traffic to and from E.N. Bemis Rd Closure Starting May 11th

For the safety of workers, residents, and the commuting public, full road closure of Bemis Road from the intersection of Northampton Street to Hillview Road will be implemented starting May 11, 2026 to facilitate major excavation work needed in conjunction with the River Terrace CSO Sewer Separation Phase A Project. Closure is expected to remain in place for approximately 2 weeks. While the area will be secured at night for potential emergency response access, NO vehicles should attempt to access this area of Bemis Road until further notification is provided.

Residents who have lost service are requested to report issues to Holyoke DPW to help resolve the issue more quickly. UPDATE FOR HILLVIEW RD AND MEADOWVIEW RD RESIDENTS - The City has been made aware that unapproved notices were posted on doors at Hillview Rd and Meadowview Rd residences by Insituform (a subcontractor to Ludlow Construction) about upcoming sewer lining in the area and planned disruption to services. These notices were posted by Insituform without approval and the notices themselves contained inaccurate information, including that lining work would take place at night. Additionally, Insituform has now indicated they are not able to complete the lining work next week as indicated. Notices to disregard the previous notice should be posted today.

Regarding upcoming construction activities, Ludlow Construction is scheduled to remobilize within the River Terrace Phase A project area the week of March 23rd. When an updated schedule for sewer lining work is received, updated notices will be posted both one week and 24 hours in advance of any scheduled disruption to services such that residents may plan accordingly. Nighttime work on this project has NOT been approved by the City.

Furthermore, when planned disruptions are scheduled to occur, City staff recommends that NO WATER SHOULD BE DISCHARGED INTO THE SEWER SYSTEM (e.g. flushing toilets, running showers, using sinks, running dishwashers/washing machines) to protect from backups within your homes. If you must use sinks or showers, leave the water in the basin/tub until your service has been restored. Toilet lids should be kept closed and covered with a towel to protect against the possibility that any water remaining in your private line prior to disconnection backs up through your toilet(s). Any sump pumps connected to the sewer system must be disconnected and/or discharged elsewhere to avoid possible backups in your basement.
