Artists in the district 🎨
Families, students, and staff gathered in the Holyoke City Hall Ballroom on Thursday, May 28 for the Heart of Holyoke Art Exhibit. Students' artwork from all across the district was on display, filling the ballroom with creativity, color, and imagination. The art exhibit will remain open for public viewing from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through June 11.

Familias, alumnos y miembros del personal se reunieron en el salón de baile de la Casa Alcaldía de Holyoke el jueves 28 de mayo con motivo de la exposición de arte “El Corazón de Holyoke”. Se expusieron obras de arte de estudiantes de todo el distrito, llenando el salón de baile de creatividad, color e imaginación. La exposición de arte permanecerá abierta al público de 8:00 a. m. a 4:00 p. m. los días laborables hasta el 11 de junio.

Free food, music, and culture this Friday 🎉🌴
Get ready for food, music, and tropical vibes during this year’s Ethnic Studies block party tomorrow, Friday May 29 from 5-7 p.m at Holyoke High School North. Inspired by Haitian, Puerto Rican and Dominican culture experiences, this event will feature music, creative art projects, tie dye tote bags, flag decorations, and fun for the whole family.

Free community thrift store featured at Ethnic Studies block party🛍️
Join us this Friday May 29, from 5-7 p.m. at HHS North for a free thrift store filled with clothing and household items donated by students and staff. Families and community members are invited to browse and take what they need at no cost. Come shop, connect and celebrate community with us during this year’s block party—and enjoy the free food, music, and entertainment while you are there!

Este viernes 29 de mayo, se llevará a cabo una tienda de segunda mano gratuita de 5 a 7 p. m. en HHS Norte, donde encontrará ropa y artículos para el hogar donados por estudiantes y miembros del personal. Shine On Day 2026 🌞🌞🌞

E.N. White students, staff, and families engaged in random acts of kindness on Tuesday, May 26, as part of Shine On Day to honor the memory and enduring legacy of former SHINE student Genesis Silva. Shine On Day serves as an invitation for the entire Holyoke Public Schools community to cultivate positivity in both significant and subtle ways.

Suggestions include: Write notes of thanks and appreciation for special people in your lives and smile at everyone you see. There’s lots of other great ideas on the Shine On Day checklist—or spread kindness however you feel moved! The link for the checklist is in the first comment.

Ethnic Studies Block Party to center on joy, unity, and community🎉

Join us at the Ethnic Studies block party this Friday May 29, from 5-7 p.m. at HHS North for a free, family-friendly celebration hosted by students in the Ethnic Studies: Leadership and Action class. This year’s block party will feature free food, music, inflatable rides, art activities, and a vibrant tropical atmosphere celebrating Haitian, Puerto Rican, and Dominican cultures.

Excellence award spotlight 🌟
Compliance Manager & Title IX Coordinator Nakaia Smith was recently surprised with an Award of Excellence from Interim Superintendent Anthony Soto. M s. Smith was nominated by HHS North Principal Lori McKenna, who called Ms. Smith “epitome of the HPS mantra Juntos Podemos. She works tirelessly with school teams to make sure that they have what they need and to support them with the work they are doing. She is always available for a call or a personal check in meeting to work through some of the challenges of the work. If something comes up, she makes herself available immediately to make sure that we get on it right away, to get a plan for follow up, and then a check in for next steps. She is supportive, empathetic, responsible, available, and a true partner in the work. She has helped us to do better and be better. The work she does is hard and when you have a partner you truly do feel like, Together, We Can!”
