The Official Start of Hurricane Season 🌀🌀

Today marks the beginning of hurricane season, and Hollywood Fire Rescue is reminding our community to stay prepared, stay informed, and stay safe.

Here are the top five tips to help you get ready as we move into the most active months of the year:

➡️ Know your evacuation zone — Understand whether you live in an evacuation area and plan your route ahead of time.

➡️ Build an emergency kit — Stock up on essentials like water, non‑perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.

➡️ Create a family plan — Make sure everyone in your household knows where to go, who to contact, and what to do if a storm approaches.

➡️ Prepare your home — Trim trees, secure outdoor items, and check shutters or impact windows.

➡️ Stay informed — Sign up for local alerts and monitor trusted weather sources throughout the season.

Hollywood Fire Rescue is committed to keeping our community safe, but preparedness starts at home. Let’s work together to make this a safe hurricane season.

Hollywood Fire Rescue took part in a large‑scale regional hazardous materials training exercise at Chase Stadium, joining agencies from across South Florida for a full‑scenario drill.

The training challenged teams to identify hazardous threats, manage large‑scale decontamination, coordinate medical response, and work through complex decision‑making under pressure, all within the setting of a simulated emergency at a major public venue.

These multi‑agency exercises strengthen communication, sharpen technical skills, and ensure that when real incidents occur, our crews and our regional partners are ready to respond seamlessly and effectively.

Hollywood Fire Rescue’s crew from Engine 5 had an amazing time participating in Oakridge Elementary School’s Career Day yesterday!

The students learned what it’s like to be a firefighter, explored the engine up close, and of course, everyone’s favorite, they got the chance to spray the hose. Their excitement and curiosity made the day unforgettable.

The kids had a great time, and so did we. 🚒🧯

In honor of Memorial Day, our newly graduated Recruit Class 26‑01, completed the Murph workout as a tribute to our fallen heroes.

The Murph is a challenging workout performed each Memorial Day to honor Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a U.S. Navy SEAL who gave his life in Afghanistan in 2005.

The workout includes:
1‑mile run
100 pull‑ups
200 push‑ups
300 air squats
1‑mile run
(Traditionally completed wearing a weighted vest)

This workout is more than physical endurance. It is a moment of reflection, respect, and gratitude for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We are proud of Class 26‑01 for pushing themselves, honoring our nation’s heroes, and carrying forward the values of service, strength, and commitment.
