To Hollywood’s Jewish residents, families, and friends, Shana Tova.

As the Jewish community welcomes the year 5787, it carries forward traditions that have endured for thousands of years, in the ancestral homeland of Israel and throughout the diaspora.

Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflection, family, renewal, and hope. May this new year bring peace and security to Israel, strength to the Jewish people, and greater understanding, kindness, and unity throughout our community and across the world.

Wishing everyone celebrating a year filled with good health, happiness, peace, and many sweet moments with family and friends.

This morning, I joined Hollywood Fire Rescue, our police officers, commissioners, Congressman Jared Moskowitz, veterans, and residents in the apparatus bay at Fire Station 31 to mark 25 years since September 11.

We remembered the nearly 3,000 innocent people who went to work that Tuesday morning and never came home. We remembered the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 8 paramedics who climbed toward the fire while everyone else was coming down.

And we remembered something our city cannot forget: part of that story began here. The terrorists who planned the attack walked our streets. That is why when HPD reminds us “If you see something, say something” - it is not a slogan.

Twenty-five years later, the call is still going out, and Americans are still answering it. Some of them were standing in that bay this morning. Thank you to everyone who serves, and to everyone who came to remember.

Never forget.

🚨 UPDATE — HOLLYWOOD HILLS HIGH SCHOOL 🚨

The Hollywood Police Department has completed its safety assessment of Hollywood Hills High School. The campus has been rendered safe, and there are NO CREDIBLE THREATS at this time.

Students are now being systematically dismissed from the school.

🚌 Students who arrived by school bus will be released and transported from the school by bus.

🚗 Students who are normally dropped off or picked up by a parent/guardian will be released for parent/guardian pickup.

🚶 Students who normally walk home will be permitted to walk home.

⚠️ PLEASE BE PATIENT: The dismissal process will take longer than a normal school dismissal because each student must be properly accounted for before being released.

🚔 There will continue to be a heavy Hollywood Police Department presence in and around the area to assist with the dismissal process and traffic control.

Please allow additional time and expect significant traffic congestion in the surrounding area.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our students, parents, school staff, and community as we work to ensure everyone is dismissed safely.

THE HOLLYWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT IS CONTINUING TO SYSTEMATICALLY CHECK AND VERIFY THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE ACCOUNTED FOR AND ALL ROOMS AND AREAS OF THE SCHOOL CAMPUS ARE SAFE.

ONCE LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS COMPLETED THE SEARCH OF THE SCHOOL CAMPUS AND DETERMINES IT IS SAFE TO PROCEED, STUDENT DISMISSALS WILL BEGIN.

The Hollywood Police Department is currently conducting a police investigation in the area of N. 56th Avenue and Stirling Road.

Out of an abundance of caution, schools in the immediate area have been placed on lockdown while officers conduct their investigation.

We ask the public to avoid the area and allow officers to safely carry out their duties.

🎒📚 Happy First Day of School, Hollywood!

Wishing all of our students, teachers, administrators and school staff a great start to the new school year!

To our students: work hard, be curious, be kind, make new friends and enjoy the journey. Every new school year is a fresh opportunity to learn, grow and discover what you’re capable of.

And a special thank you to our teachers, school staff and parents who do so much every day to help our kids succeed.

As we all get back into the school-year routine, please slow down, drive safely and be patient in our school zones. Keep an extra eye out for children walking and biking to school, and for school buses making frequent stops. A few extra minutes of patience can help keep everyone safe.
