Fergenia Hood took the oath of office Tuesday evening, June 9, as the newest member of the Holly Springs School District Board of Trustees. She was recently appointed to the position by the city board of aldermen, and Mayor Charles Terry conducted the swearing-in ceremony. Family and friends were in attendance for the ceremony, which was held prior to the school board meeting. Hood will complete the unexpired term of the late Dr. Gemma Beckley. The term runs through February 28, 2029.

The Holly Springs School District held its Retirees’ Farewell Program on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in the high school cafeteria. The special honorees have a combined 137 years of dedicated service to the school district.
From left, in the group photo, are Kim Mayfield, school board president; Dr. Irene Walton Turnage, superintendent of education; Shirley Aldridge, teacher assistant, 29.25 years; Sherrye Washington, teacher assistant, 23 years; Elvira Crittle, teacher, 20 years (23 years in education); Caldonia Crane, teacher assistant, 27 years; Priscilla Jackson, cafeteria manager, 38 years.; and Eileen Dowsing, assistant superintendent of education.
Kim Mayfield, president of the school board, Dr. Irene Walton Turnage, superintendent of education, and Eileen Dowsing, assistant superintendent of education, thanked retirees for their longstanding commitment to education and a lasting legacy that will be remembered. They also urged them to enjoy the next chapter of their lives.
“Your years of dedication and service have helped shape Holly Springs School District into what it is today,” Mayfield said. “The seeds you planted in students, colleagues, and this community will continue to grow for years to come. We thank you for your service, your sacrifices and the legacy you leave behind.”

Holly Springs High School Commencement for the Class of 2026 was held Friday, May 22, at Rust College. This special moment marked not only the end of a chapter, but the beginning of bright new journeys ahead. As these seniors step into the future, may they continue to walk with confidence, purpose and pride. The Class of 2026 has already shown resilience, strength and determination, and the best is yet to come.
