For those in our great community, this week has been National Police Week. This is something like Memorial Day for the military but for Law enforcement. Too many to count law enforcement officers met in Washington D.C. this past week to celebrate the lives and work of fallen law enforcement officers from all over the country.
Today, many in Washington gave the last of the handshakes and hugs and began the trips back home. Friendships and kinships were made and will not be forgotten.
Families of the fallen officers were celebrated as well. Wives, husbands, parents and loved ones gathered alongside the officers, deputies, agents, and troopers who were in attendance.
But for us here in Holly Springs Georgia, well we have Officer Joe Burson. Joe was a son, a husband, a brother and so many other titles too many.
Not long ago, Joe conducted a traffic stop with his fellow officers and by the end of the shift, Joe was no longer with us.
Joe was one of a kind. He simply loved being a cop and serving the community. Joe lived by his oath. It was his heart and his spirit that made you love him. And it was his heart and his spirit that even today as his name is mentioned…smiles come to our faces right along with the tears. The Holly Springs Police Department was better place because of Officer Joe Burson.
