City of Holly Springs, Georgia - Official Government Located 35 miles north of Atlanta in Cherokee County, we strive to exceed the needs of our residents.

Located just north of Atlanta in fast-growing Cherokee County, the City of Holly Springs is a five and a half square mile oasis of friendly neighborhoods, thriving businesses, and wonderful early-twentieth century homes and commercial buildings. The City was incorporated in 1906, and quickly began building up around a busy train depot established by the L&N Railroad (now the Georgia Northeastern R

ailway). That depot, now the Holly Springs Community Center, was painstakingly restored by the City in the late 1990's and is a source of immense civic pride for our 9,000 local residents.

This week, Mayor Ryan Shirley proudly proclaimed April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the City of Holly Springs. This proclamation is a powerful reminder that protecting our children is a responsibility we all share.

Prevention works best when we work together, citizens, schools, faith communities, healthcare providers, civic organizations, law enforcement, businesses, and service agencies, united with one goal: ensuring every child in Holly Springs has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Cherokee County Fire Marshal, in coordination with municipal fire marshals, has issued an immediate countywide burn ban due to severe drought conditions. The ban applies to all outdoor burning in unincorporated Cherokee County and within the cities located in Cherokee County.

Cherokee County is currently classified under a Severe Drought designation, creating an elevated risk for rapidly spreading outdoor fires. These dry conditions, combined with low humidity and limited recent rainfall, have significantly increased the potential for outdoor fire activity throughout the county.

Compounding the risk, many resources that typically support local wildfire response efforts have been deployed to other parts of the state to assist with active wildfires. This reduction in available regional support limits the ability to quickly contain and control fires should they occur.

Effective immediately, all outdoor burning is prohibited in Cherokee County. This includes the burning of yard debris, land clearing, and other open flames that could ignite surrounding vegetation. The burn ban will remain in place until further notice.

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services urges all residents to take precautions to prevent accidental fires. Residents are encouraged to avoid activities that could produce sparks, properly dispose of smoking materials, and remain vigilant in reporting any signs of smoke or fire to 9-1-1.

Violations of the burn ban may result in fines or other enforcement actions.

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services will continue to monitor conditions closely and will provide updates as circumstances change.

For more information, residents may contact the Cherokee County Fire Marshal’s Office or visit the department’s official website: fire.cherokeecountyga.gov

In November 2025, Cherokee County voters approved the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST). Beginning April 1, a 1% sales tax will fund transportation improvements throughout the county and its municipalities — including Holly Springs!

Over the six-year program, the tax is estimated to generate approximately $445,152,292 countywide. Holly Springs will receive 7.7566% of those funds to invest in local transportation projects.

A key advantage of this funding approach is that the cost is shared more broadly. Anyone who makes purchases in Cherokee County contributes — including visitors and commuters who use local roads. County estimates indicate that roughly one-third of the sales tax revenue comes from individuals who live outside Cherokee County, helping reduce the burden on residents.

This funding will allow Holly Springs to accelerate projects identified in long-range transportation plans, helping address current traffic needs while preparing for future growth. We appreciate the community’s engagement in shaping the future of transportation in Holly Springs.
