HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – June 3, 2026 - On May 29, 2026, officers from the Hollister Police Department, in partnership with Hollister Code Enforcement, conducted a To***co Retail Inspection at the Green Rush Smoke Shop, located on the 700 block of San Benito Street. This was part of an ongoing effort to protect young people from the harmful effects of to***co and ni****ne addiction and to ensure compliance with California law.

This operation was funded through a grant from the California Department of Justice aimed at reducing youth access to flavored to***co products and increasing retailer compliance with state regulations. Research has consistently shown that flavored to***co products are particularly appealing to youth and can contribute to early ni****ne addiction, making enforcement efforts critical to protecting the health and well-being of our community’s young people.

During the inspection, officers verified whether the business possessed or sold flavored to***co products or other to***co items prohibited under Senate Bill 793 (SB 793) and California Health and Safety Code Section 104559.5. California law prohibits the retail sale of most flavored to***co products, including flavored disposable va**ng devices, flavored electronic ci******es, menthol to***co products, and flavored smokeless to***co products.

As a result of the inspection, officers located and seized 2,141 illegally flavored to***co products that were displayed on shelves, stored in drawers, and kept in boxes within the business. The business owner was advised of the applicable state laws and notified of the observed violations.

The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of appropriate charges.

The Hollister Police Department remains committed to working collaboratively with local businesses to promote compliance with state to***co laws. Through education, enforcement, and community partnerships, the Department will continue its efforts to reduce youth access to to***co products, prevent ni****ne addiction among young people, and safeguard the health and safety of the Hollister community.

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – May 29, 2026 – On May 28, 2026, officers responded to reports of vandalism involving robotic assessment units operating in the area of the 800 block of Fourth Street and the area of West and Fifth Streets. The incidents were reported by Daxbot, the company responsible for deploying and operating the assessment robots.

Earlier this week, Daxbot deployed several specialized assessment robots throughout the city to evaluate sidewalks, pedestrian pathways, and curb ramps. The project is funded through the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program and is designed to help the City identify areas where pedestrian infrastructure may not meet current accessibility standards. The information collected by these robots will assist the City in planning future improvements to sidewalks and walkways, helping ensure safer and more accessible routes for all residents, including individuals with disabilities and those who rely on ADA-compliant pathways.

The robots are equipped with advanced measuring and recording technology that allows them to accurately assess sidewalk conditions, identify potential accessibility barriers, and document areas requiring improvement.
During one incident, surveillance footage captured by the robot shows a male subject riding a bicycle who stopped, approached the robot, and intentionally knocked it onto its side before leaving the area.

In a second incident, a subject approached a robot that was operating near the intersection of Fourth and Line Streets. The individual appears to strike the robot before approaching a second robot that was recording the interaction. The subject then appears to strike the second robot and pour what is believed to be beer over the unit before leaving the area. Both incidents were captured by the robots' onboard camera systems.

While the presence of these robots may naturally generate curiosity, the Hollister Police Department reminds the public that these units are performing an important public service.

The Hollister Police Department is asking for anyone who knows the identity of the individuals involved in these incidents to call 636-4331.
