We will never forget the tremendous courage from all who were on Flight 93, the first responders, everyone who was in the towers that day, and all the families that have had to continue on without their loved ones. 🇺🇸 ♥

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, the United States was forever changed. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the terrorist attacks, including the 40 passengers and crew members of Flight 93, whose courageous actions thwarted a planned attack on our nation’s capital.

Today, places across the National Park System help preserve the stories, memories, and history of that day and its aftermath. Along with Flight 93 National Memorial, other national parks, memorials, and historic sites preserve stories of those who responded, served, mourned, and helped communities come together in the days and years that followed.

On this 25th anniversary, take time to remember, reflect, and serve. Visit a national park, learn a story, or volunteer in your community in honor of those who were lost and those who answered the call to serve.

For the final post of Conservation Professionals Week, we’re excited to celebrate our Agriculture and Farmland Preservation Teams and the incredible work of Donna Fisher and Rich Huether!

Farmland preservation means that future generations will continue to enjoy the beautiful crop fields and pastures that make Blair County so special. Whether you’re taking a scenic drive through the county in the summertime or heading out for ice cream, we can all appreciate the beauty of our agricultural landscape. 🌾🍦

We are incredibly grateful to Donna and Rich for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to protecting Blair County’s farmland and helping keep our county beautiful for years to come. Thank you both for all that you do! 💚

The FREE Pawpaw Yeehaw Festival is coming up! 🤠🍈

This is your chance to experience one of Pennsylvania's most unique seasonal traditions.

Spend the day exploring Hamer Woodlands at Cove Mountain Preserve, picking pawpaws, joining guided hikes, and celebrating Pennsylvania's largest native fruit.

Pawpaw season only comes once a year, and the fruit is available for a short time, so don't miss your chance to try one!

🌧️ Today we’re highlighting our Stormwater Coordinator, Chelsey! 🌿💧

Chelsey serves as the Administrator for the Blair County Intergovernmental Stormwater Committee (ISC), working with 10 municipalities to coordinate their MS4 NPDES Permits and Chesapeake Bay Pollution Reduction Plan. She also serves as the District’s primary administrator for the Dirt, Gravel, and Low Volume Road Program and watershed management.

While these roles may sound different, they share a common goal: preserving, restoring, and enhancing the water quality of Blair County.

One project she helped coordinate took place over several years and resulted in an estimated 96,167 pounds of sediment per year being prevented from entering local waterways! Reducing sediment improves water quality and helps restore healthy habitat for aquatic life and wildlife. 🐟🌱

We’re proud to have Chelsey on our team and grateful for her dedication to protecting Blair County’s natural resources! 💙

Today, we’re highlighting Lisa, our Educational Specialist! Lisa’s goal is to bring environmental science and a love of nature to our community. She travels throughout the county to a variety of venues, bringing engaging programs to both adults and children. 🌎💚
