Learn about the more charismatic and dynamic personalities of the Canal-Era time in Hollidaysburg.
The program is presented by Jim Snyder, president of the Blair County Genealogical Society. It is free and no reservations are required. (es) See less See less

Hi Folks - Are you aware of any detailed scholarly studies about the history of the Slinky? There is an abundance of popular source stories about the Slinky and its origins, but I’ve never encountered any detailed studies that go into the specifics of the Slinky’s early marketing and development, and the James’ initial 1945-47 collaborators for introducing the novelty into the mainstream toy marketplace.

I’ve been trying to research and sort-out the various stories for a proposed exhibit here in Chicago, but I’m hoping that a reliable source may already exist. (One of the early collaborstors was based here in Chicago).

Any help you could offer in pointing me in the right direction would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

After a discussion at the 250 Kickoff at the Legion Park on Sunday about the Union cemetery in Hollidaysburg. I decided to do a quick dowsing for graves; I walked about half and found 70 stones and 204 with N/S. The spreadsheet compiled by the Blair County Genealogical Society, Inc. lists 170 burials 79 with stones & 91 with N/S. Find A Grave lists 191 memorials. There is a discussion of perhaps dowsing the Holliday cemetery this fall.
