Located near Altoona in Duncansville, Blair County, the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home (HVH) is the largest of six veterans homes in the commonwealth.

The residents of Eisenhower Hall enjoyed dinner and bingo at the Duncansville VFW Post 8724.The Boy Scouts of Troop 31 help every month to make this event extra special for the residents. They always enjoy having the Scouts help them during bingo and socializing, too. It was fun for all!

Behind the compassionate care our residents receive is a dedicated Accounting Department working quietly but tirelessly to ensure that every dollar is accounted for, every expense is justified, and every budget supports the well-being of our veterans. Their attention to detail and commitment to transparency mean that our caregivers can focus on what matters most – providing comfort, dignity, and respect to those who have served our country.

The Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home made the Top 5 for the Nursing Home category in the Altoona Mirror Hometown Favorites! Thank you to everyone who voted to get us there!

HVH was pleased to receive a generous donation of packaged snack items, new clothing, toiletries, headphones, wallets, batteries, gift cards and other essential items from Debra and Pat Glenny of Petersburg, PA.

This was their family’s second year holding a bake sale and hot sausage sale on Memorial Day to raise money to purchase items to donate for our residents.

Thank you to the Glenny family and all the generous community members who donate for the veterans and veteran spouses at HVH! Your kindness truly brightens their days!

The residents of MacArthur Hall were hosted by the Lilly American Legion Auxiliary Unit 628 for entertainment, bingo, and dinner. The residents enjoyed wonderful food and music provided by Bruce Schettig.

As part of our ongoing mentorship program, a group from Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home visited Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home to exchange ideas, observe best practices, and strengthen professional connections. The time was filled with engaging discussions and opportunities for mentors and mentees to share experiences in a supportive environment. The group attended a fun evening at the ballpark to watch the Altoona Curve host the Erie Seawolves. It was an evening of great conversations, lots of laughs, and a perfect way to strengthen connections beyond the workplace.

Special thanks to McDonald’s for once again allowing Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home to utilize their sky box as well as donating free tickets and parking passes for the game! Your continued generosity and community support is very much appreciated! 🤝

Adoration Hospice services assisted with Ocean Sensory programming for Arnold Hall residents. Residents spent time engaging in the many relaxing and enjoyable sounds of the ocean. Special thanks for providing engaging interactions for our veterans and their spouses!

The MacArthur Hall residents at the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home enjoy many recreational group activities such as the Chess Club. The club meets every Monday at 6:00 p.m. for a chess tournament where prizes are awarded for 1st place through 4th place. Many of the players explain that besides the benefit of winning a prize, playing chess is a wonderful way to improve concentration and it offers a quiet place for veterans to socialize. The players’ experience ranges from beginners to those with years of experience, but without a doubt the players are always eager to challenge another resident or a visiting staff member. 👏

Every week, Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home residents can participate in an exercise class activity facilitated by staff members of our contracted Physical & Occupational Therapy team, Benchmark Therapies.

We are grateful for the skills and enthusiasm that Katelyn, Haley, and Rachel bring to this lively activity, helping to keep our residents active and healthy in mind, body, and spirit!

Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home hosted a Country Store for their residents last Thursday and Friday in Eisenhower Hall and Arnold Hall. Items at the store came from Veterans Closet, which receives extensive donations from various organizations and individuals. Veterans and their spouses enjoyed perusing the different items and finding the perfect outfit.
