This week I was asked to speak about this important topic facing our state and the education of students headed into the workforce. For every five people in the trades who retire there are just two who are able to replace them. There is a significant need for more students to consider going into the trades. Not all need to be college-bound. We must focus on each individual students gifts and passions and expose them to opportunities in the trades while in high school. It’s already begun to grow here in West MI with the ISD’s.
Michigan leaders highlighted how talent shortages, evolving skill demands, and fragmented systems are reshaping the state’s competitiveness.
