A safe, stable home provides the foundation people need to heal, establish routines, build relationships, and plan for tomorrow.
Finding housing has become increasingly difficult. Rising costs, limited availability, complicated applications, and long waitlists can place stability just out of reach. That’s why our Outreach & Housing Access team walks alongside neighbors, helping them navigate barriers while building trusted relationships that continue long after housing is secured.
Adam* first came to Community Action House with one goal: find a safe place to live. Although he worked full-time, his income wasn’t enough to qualify for an apartment. While searching for housing, he slept in his car or stayed with friends whenever possible.
Homelessness affected every part of his life, including his health. Adam urgently needed surgery, but without stable housing, his doctors couldn’t move forward.
Our Outreach & Housing Access team helped him navigate housing applications and connect with a Housing Choice Voucher. Along the way, he found encouragement at the Community Kitchen and Refresh: Hygiene and Hope.
Earlier this year, Adam moved into his own apartment. Furnishings from Community Action House Resale helped transform it into a home, and today he’s a Food Club member as well. With stable housing in place, Adam was finally able to receive the surgery he’d been waiting for.
Today, he’s healing, returning to work each day, and looking toward the future with renewed hope.
For Adam, wellness looks like a safe home, access to healthcare, nourishing food, and a community that never stopped walking alongside him.
