At Good Samaritan, we appreciate the partners who make our work possible. One such partner, Heart of West Michigan United Way, hosted our leadership team at a breakfast with fellow community organizations this morning.

Good Samaritan and Lakeshore Housing Alliance are proud recipients of United Way funding to continue providing housing support services over the next three years. We are grateful for United Way's generosity and shared commitment toward a West Michigan where all people can thrive and establish a strong foundation for their lives.

Good Samaritan’s Advancement Team visited Pigeon Creek Event Center, and we’re getting excited for Evening of Impact!

It’s not too late to Tee Up Transformation with us on June 24. Attendees will hear from featured speakers, enjoy dinner, take part in golf-themed games, and bid on silent auction items.

This is a great opportunity to support Good Samaritan’s housing services while connecting with others who care about building a stronger, more stable community.

Register today at goodsamottawa.org/dinner.

Did you know Good Samaritan maintains a supply closet?

As neighbors exit homelessness and move into housing, our Housing Team helps provide essential household goods to make their new space feel more like home.

Located at our Holland office, the supply closet includes kitchen items, bathroom essentials, cleaning supplies, bedding, and other basic household goods. Right now, we could use help restocking these items.

If you would like to donate items or host a donation drive through your workplace, school, church, or community group, we’d love to hear from you!

Items can be dropped off at our office, or you can connect with us at [email protected] or (616) 392-7159.

This year, the Community Foundation of Holland/Zeeland (CFHZ) celebrates 75 years of supporting impactful nonprofit organizations and community-level initiatives throughout our region.

In recognition of this milestone, CFHZ invited community partners, including Good Samaritan, to celebrate and connect with one another.

Good Samaritan shares CFHZ’s vision of a community where residents can achieve financial stability, have their physical, mental, and emotional health needs cared for, and access the opportunities they need to reach their full potential.

It was inspiring to hear stories of impact from across our community and to spend time with the many dedicated leaders working to make Holland/Zeeland a stronger, healthier, and more connected place for all.

We are grateful for the generosity of this community and excited for the continued collaboration, partnership, and shared impact ahead.

This Wednesday, we’re highlighting why Good Samaritan’s work matters.

Ottawa County is growing quickly and is often seen as one of Michigan’s most prosperous communities. But even as we celebrate that growth, many of our neighbors are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living.

According to United for ALICE, more than 1 in 3 households in Ottawa County live below the ALICE threshold. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed and describes households that are working but still cannot afford the full cost of basic necessities like housing, groceries, transportation, and child care.

This matters because many ALICE households are one emergency away from falling behind. An unexpected bill, missed paycheck, or rent increase can quickly lead to debt, missed payments, and long-term financial instability.

At Good Samaritan, we help individuals and families facing financial hardship find support, stability, and a path forward.

Each year, the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce organizes Community Impact Day, bringing together thousands of volunteers to provide more than 10,000 hours of service at 139 nonprofit organizations across the community. We’re proud to have hosted one of those sites!

This year, Casey Marietta, Good Samaritan’s Director of Property Management, led a project to improve the front of one of our properties, including yard work and plenty of weeding with volunteer support.

Looking for a meaningful way to connect with your neighbors? Consider becoming a Circles Ally!

Circles Allies meet regularly with a Circles Leader — someone working toward financial stability — and attend Circles meetings twice a month for 18 months. Training and ongoing support are provided.

Through encouragement and consistent support, Circles Allies help create the kind of community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. The program has demonstrated results, helping participants achieve goals related to employment, education, and housing while increasing income and decreasing debt.

Our next cohort begins June 2026. Learn more or sign up at goodsamottawa.org/circles, or email [email protected].
