This Wednesday, we’re highlighting why Good Samaritan’s work matters.
Ottawa County is growing quickly and is often seen as one of Michigan’s most prosperous communities. But even as we celebrate that growth, many of our neighbors are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living.
According to United for ALICE, more than 1 in 3 households in Ottawa County live below the ALICE threshold. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed and describes households that are working but still cannot afford the full cost of basic necessities like housing, groceries, transportation, and child care.
This matters because many ALICE households are one emergency away from falling behind. An unexpected bill, missed paycheck, or rent increase can quickly lead to debt, missed payments, and long-term financial instability.
At Good Samaritan, we help individuals and families facing financial hardship find support, stability, and a path forward.
