The Holland Patent Free Library will hold a presentation entitled "Slavery and Abolition: a Family 'Legacy'" on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Alden Smith, the interim president of the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, is a direct decendant of the 19th century freedom seekers. He will discuss the importance of local abolitionist Garrit Smith and the role of Utica in the abolition of slavery.

Thank you to everyone who came out last night and participated in our annual ice cream social! It was a beautiful night and the perfect way to close out summer. 🎶☀️🍨

Our annual ice cream social has been rescheduled for this Thursday, September 3rd at 6pm. Treat yourselves and your kids to a little family fun after the first day of school with live music by Cincinnati Creek and sundaes made from delicious Stewart’s ice cream. Suggested donation of $1 per person.

Join us today for a visit from the Zoomobile at 3pm to celebrate the end of our summer reading program and learn about some amazing animals!

Don’t forget to bring your reading logs to collect prizes from the treasure chest. Kids who read for at least 4 hours will also be able to choose a book to take home from our rack in the lobby.

🍨🎶 Holland Patent Free Library is having an ice cream social on Thursday, August 27 at 6:00 PM. 🎶🍨

Relax on the library's lawn with your blanket or a chair and enjoy music from the group Cincinnati Creek while enjoying some delicious sundaes made with Stewart's ice cream. Sundaes will be sold for $1.00 each, so bring the whole family.
