After dedicating 33 years of service to the community of Oneida County, Detective Justin Schwartz is retiring. Join us in extending heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to Justin as he departs from the Police Department.

School has been in session for 9 weeks. In that time we have issued 9 citations, some of which were close calls and a student was almost injured. If you see the yellow lights activated be prepared to stop. There is no roadway in Oneida County where you are permitted drive past a school bus while its red lights are activated and the stop arm is out.

Please help if or however you can, he is a fellow firefighter at our sister station in malad.

In the past, we have reached out to our generous community for support. On behalf of all the volunteer firemen, we extend our sincerest gratitude. This year, our request holds a deeper significance. Our colleague, Derric Willson, will be taking a temporary leave from firefighting duties to focus on his battle with colon cancer. As a department, we are humbled to solicit your assistance in his fight, in any way possible. To demonstrate our support, we are organizing a raffle from now until the 4th of July. Details about the raffle can be found on flyers available at local gas stations, next week's Car Show, and on the 4th at the park. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the volunteer firemen with questions. Feel free to share this post!

10/2 Update:
Ignitions will continue today, Wednesday Oct 2nd, on the prescribed burn in the John Evans Canyon, 8 miles west of Malad. Smoke will be visible from Malad and the I-15 corridor.
From the original post:
The objectives are to provide for public and fire fighter safety while improving wildlife habitat, promoting aspen growth, and reducing fuels for future wildfires.
Fire managers will ignite the prescribed burns over a multiday period. After the active burning is finished, crews will mop-up, patrol and monitor the fire area.
This prescribed burn is a “broadcast burn,” which means once crews have ignited the burn, low to moderate intensity fire will be allowed to consume fuels across the forest floor within the unit boundaries.
For more information on this project, please call the Pocatello Field Office at 208-478-6340.
