Supervisor Peshlakai Supports Birdsprings Community Health at Annual JUST MOVE IT Event

BIRDSPRINGS, AZ [June 4, 2026] – Supervisor Peshlakai proudly served as the Master of Ceremonies for the Winslow Indian Health Care Center (WIHCC) and Dilkon Medical Center (DMC) 29th Annual JUST MOVE IT (JMI) event, held today at the Little Singer Community School in Birdsprings. Demonstrating his commitment to health and wellness, Supervisor Peshlakai completed the 5K route prior to the official start of the event.

The successful community gathering saw active participation from local leaders, including Birdsprings Chapter President Mitzi Begay, who also took part in the 5K run/walk. The Birdsprings Chapter generously provided an array of refreshing fruits, snacks, and beverages for all participants following the event, for which WIHCC/DMC extends its sincere gratitude. Appreciation is also extended to the Little Singer Community School for graciously hosting the event, and a special thank you goes out to the entire WIHCC/DMC team for their outstanding coordination and effort in making this event a success.

Supervisor Peshlakai expressed his enjoyment in facilitating the event, underscoring the vital role of community engagement in fostering healthy lifestyles. He remarked, "It's truly inspiring to see so many members of our community, from all ages, come together to prioritize their well-being. Events like JMI are crucial for building stronger, healthier communities, and I was honored to be a part of it, witnessing firsthand the dedication and enthusiasm." Happy Global Running Day! I'm pleased to share that I successfully completed two 5K runs today. My first run took place early this morning, just as dawn was breaking, and I finished my second 5K this evening, concluding at sunset. It was a great way to participate in the global event, and I'm already looking forward to future runs.

Global Running Day is an annual event that celebrates the sport of running and encourages people worldwide to get active. It's a day for runners of all ages and abilities to declare their passion for running and inspire others to join in, promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

The event typically takes place on the first Wednesday of June each year. It began as "National Running Day" in the United States in 2009. Over the years, its popularity grew, leading to its expansion into a global event in 2016. Since then, millions of people from various countries have participated, logging miles and sharing their love for running.

Supervisor Peshlakai Attends Construction Tour of New C-Store in Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, AZ – Supervisor Peshlakai, by invitation from the Indian Wells Chapter administration, participated in a construction tour of the new convenience store (C-Store) project. Peshlakai joined Local Chapter Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, Chapter CSC and AMS, NTUA, President Nygren, and other tribal officials to view the progress of the much-anticipated development.

The C-Store, slated for completion on September 26, 2026, is a 5,000-square-foot facility that will include restrooms, a post office, a food area, and a total of eight fuel pumps, including diesel. The development is situated on ten acres of a 40-acre parcel withdrawn for business development at the junction of N6 and N15, heading north along N6.

Local chapter officials, along with Chapter CSC, President Nygren, and other tribal offices offered words of support and enthusiasm during the tour, highlighting the significance of the project for the community.

This C-Store has been in the works for over 30+ years, championed by past and current chapter administrators, officials, council delegates, and CLUPC members. The project represents a significant step forward in meeting the needs of the Indian Wells community and fostering economic growth.

"I deeply appreciate everyone's hard work in bringing this C-Store to life," Supervisor Peshlakai noted. "I thank the Indian Wells Chapter administrators for the invitation to tour this project, and for their vision and planning, the architects and designers for their creativity, the construction workers for their dedication, and the project managers for their invaluable leadership. Supervisor Peshlakai Honors Fallen Heroes at Multiple Memorial Day Ceremonies

INDIAN WELLS, AZ – Supervisor Peshlakai demonstrated unwavering respect for the nation's fallen heroes by attending two significant Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 25, 2026. Following his participation in the White Cone Veterans Memorial, Supervisor Peshlakai was also present at the Indian Wells Chapter Veterans Organization's Memorial Day event. These consecutive observances underscored the profound importance of remembering and honoring the sacrifices of service members.

The day's proceedings at the Indian Wells Chapter event included the Posting of Colors by George Clark, Sr., Veteran, and IWCVO Members, followed by the National Anthem led by Henry Haskie, Commander, and the Invocation also led by Henry Haskie. A Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence was observed by all. The Welcome Address was given by Sarah Riggs, Vice Commander, while the History and Meaning of Memorial Day and the Key Note Address were delivered by "Buddy" Ralph Scott, Veteran. The Unfolding and Refolding of Flags was performed by George Clark, Sr., and volunteers facilitated an Open Microphone session. The event concluded with the Retrieving of Colors by George Clark, Sr., and IWCVO Members.

Speaking at the events, Supervisor Peshlakai stated, "We gather to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten." These Memorial Day ceremonies serve as a vital reminder of the immense debt owed to those who served and continue to serve our country.

Whitecone Veterans Organization Honors Fallen Heroes at Memorial Day Program

WHITECONE, AZ - The Whitecone Veterans Organization proudly hosted its Memorial Day Program on May 25, 2026, in Whitecone, honoring fallen heroes. Attendees were greeted by the sight of the American flag, proudly hoisted by the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority, as they arrived. The event commenced with a flag-raising ceremony by WCVO Veterans, followed by a continental breakfast. Mr. Jackson Hanley served as the Emcee, guiding attendees through the day's proceedings. The Posting of Colors was presented by the Color Guard, a joint effort of Tewa and WC WCVO.

The Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem were led by Ms. Kaycee Whitehorse, Miss Southwest, and Ms. Annabel W. Smallcanyon, daughter of a Veteran Code-Talker. The program featured a special address by guest speaker Supervisor Peshlakai and remarks from Representative Tsosie. "It is a profound honor to stand before you today and recognize the immense sacrifices made by our veterans," Supervisor Peshlakai stated. "Their bravery and dedication not only protected our nation but also preserved our way of life and sovereignty for future generations."

The event also included a reading of WCVO Veterans' names with "TAPS" by Veteran, WCVO, and the ceremonial unfolding and refolding of flags by WCVO Veterans and Tewa Veterans. A moving flute performance of "Amazing Grace" was presented by Mr. Darryl Bedoni, son of the late U.S. Marine and Navajo Code-Talker, Sidney Bedoni.

Distinguished guests included Mrs. Linda Nelson from NN Executive Staff, Mr. Dick Lester Jr., WC Chapter President, Mr. Jarvis Namoki, Yuwehloo Pahki, The Honorable Theresa Hatathlie, State Senator for Arizona, The Honorable Myron Tsosie, Arizona State Representative, and Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren. The program concluded with a Memorial Day Luncheon and a closing prayer by a White Cone Community Member. We extend our sincere thanks to the Whitecone Veterans Organization for their exceptional coordination and generous invitation, and for providing a fresh and delicious meal. The organization hopes the program was a meaningful tribute to the members of the Hopi Tribe.

Supervisor Peshlakai Attends Holbrook High School Graduation

HOLBROOK, AZ – Supervisor Peshlakai was pleased to attend the Holbrook High School graduation ceremony, following an invitation from the Holbrook Unified School District #3 Superintendent and several graduating seniors representing the Southwest Navajo Nation communities within District 2. The graduation took place at Holbrook Roadrunner Stadium.

Supervisor Peshlakai expressed his gratitude for the invitation from both the school district and the graduating seniors. He also extended his appreciation to the dedicated staff of Holbrook High School for their meticulous coordination in ensuring another successful graduation ceremony.

"It is an honor to celebrate this significant milestone with the graduating class, their families, and the entire Roadrunner community," said Supervisor Peshlakai. "I commend the students for their hard work and perseverance, and I thank the Holbrook High School staff for their commitment to providing quality education. Supervisor Peshlakai Celebrates Holbrook Junior High School 8th Grade Promotion

HOLBROOK, AZ – Supervisor Peshlakai was honored to attend the Holbrook Junior High School 8th Grade promotion ceremony held on May 20, 2026, at the Roadrunner Stadium. The invitation was extended by several students representing communities within the southwest Navajo Nation, which are part of District 2.

Reflecting on the event, Supervisor Peshlakai noted the significance of the occasion, having been a member of the Holbrook Junior High School 8th grade class of 2000, 26 years prior. Supervisor Peshlakai extended heartfelt congratulations to the promotees as they prepare to embark on their high school journey.

"It was a privilege to share in this milestone with the students and their families," said Supervisor Peshlakai. "I extend my sincere gratitude to the students and their families for the invitation to celebrate this important achievement.
