Traffic Detour in Johns Avenue Area to Begin Aug. 18: The Holbrook Police Department would like to make residents and motorists aware of a traffic detour that will take effect Tuesday, Aug. 18, as part of ongoing road construction in the area.

Beginning Aug. 18:

- Traffic traveling northbound or southbound on North Franklin Street will be permitted to turn eastbound onto Johns Avenue and continue to Pine Street.

- Traffic traveling northbound or southbound on Pine Street will not be permitted to turn westbound onto Johns Avenue.

- Motorists on Pine Street seeking to travel west will be detoured via East Division Street.

Motorists should follow posted detour signs, use caution in the area and allow additional travel time.

This detour is part of a multi-stage roadway and sidewalk improvement project that the Department of Public Works is beginning on Aug. 18. All work is expected to take about seven weeks, weather permitting.

The Holbrook Police Department appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this work is underway.

The Holbrook Police are attempting locate the following male party who is missing. Male party is described as a light skin male with curly hair, wearing a grey shirt with red lettering, dark grey sweatpants, and socks without shoes. Male party was last seen in the area of the town square at approximately 8:30PM.

Yesterday, the 7th Holbrook Junior Police Academy concluded its final day.

The day began with Assistant Fire Chief Collins teaching the students the importance of CPR and the proper use of an AED during a cardiac emergency.

Continuing a long-standing tradition, the class conducted its platoon run down South Franklin Street for their “unofficial” graduation, culminating in the “hats off” moment—a special opportunity for the students to connect with the staff one final time.

Each academy class chooses its own motto to recite when called to attention or dismissed. This year’s class chose “Together.”

Together, these students persevered, pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones, and supported one another throughout a successful week.

The 7th Holbrook Junior Police Academy proudly graduated in front of family and friends. Congratulations to all of our graduates—we’re proud of each and every one of you!

Day four of the Junior Police Academy concluded yesterday.

Students began the day learning how radar and LiDAR are used in law enforcement. They then had the opportunity to put their training to the test by capturing vehicle speeds in mock scenarios.

Next, the students marched proudly to Sumner Field, where the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing landed.

The day concluded with a K9 demonstration by Deputy Chief Surprenant and his K9 partner, Jan.

Day 3 of the Junior Police Academy concluded yesterday!

Students started the morning with a motivating run while singing cadence.

Next, students stepped into the role of detectives by working a mock crime scene. They learned how to secure a scene, photograph and collect evidence, and dust for fingerprints.

Students then continued developing their defensive tactics skills by learning knee strikes and expanding on their blocking techniques.

The day concluded with another squad PT challenge, where Squad 1’s teamwork and game plan led them to victory.

Day 2 of the Holbrook Junior Police Academy concluded yesterday!

Sgt. Peter Hutchings conducted a MOP demonstration and highlighted the capabilities of a police motorcycle. One student successfully uprighted a 850 pound motorcycle!

Students then marched to the Public Safety Building for a tour, where they explored the station and had the opportunity to check out a police cruiser.

Next, the students built on their defensive tactics training by learning basic strikes. The day concluded with physical training, featuring a squad relay race. In one of the closest races in Junior Police Academy history, Squad 1 came away with the victory!
