The regular County Commission meeting has been re-scheduled to Monday, September 14, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.

During that meeting the Lewis County Board of Commissioners will be appointing an individual to the vacant office of 1st and 8th District Constable and 7th District School Board Member until an election can be held to fill the positions on November 3, 2026, to unexpired term(s).

Anyone interested in being appointed to this position should contact Lewis County Clerk, Sandra Clayton, at (931) 628-2504.

Congratulations to Lewis County Government’s Trustee Mike Webb, Administrative Director, Michaelena Kelley, and Purchasing Director, Renee Odom, who earned the designation of “Certified County Finance Officer” last week!

The CCFO program is a professional certification program designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of Tennessee county officials and employees in the areas of governmental accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, purchasing, debt management, and other important aspects of county finance.

Completing the year-long program requires a significant commitment of time, study, coursework, and testing, making it a grueling and challenging course of study and an accomplishment worthy of recognition.

By completing this rigorous program, Mike, Michaelena and Renee have strengthened their ability to provide efficient, effective, and accountable service to our constituents.

Last week was the official groundbreaking ceremony for Lewis County’s Public Library & Archives Expansion Project!

The $2 Million-plus project is being funded primarily through state grants at the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.

The remaining funds are coming from the Library’s Reserve Account, donations from the Friends of the Library and Private Individuals, and a $100,000 contribution from Lewis County Government’s APRA Funds (no local tax-dollars).

The project will consist of a large community meeting room, a safe and secure archives area, more training rooms, and new programming, as well as state-of-the-art technology and equipment.

“I appreciate our amazing Library & Archives Director, Crystal Nash, for all her hard work and leadership that made this dream a reality, and for spearheading this project along,” stated Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner.

“I also appreciate everyone who was/is involved in helping Mrs. Crystal, including the Library Board, the Friends of the Library, our Lewis County Commissioners, my office staff, Project Managers Lashlee-Rich, and our grant administrators at the South Central Tennessee Development District!”

Lewis County Mayor, Jonah Keltner, recently signed a $305,461 non-matching grant contract that will provide the county with a brand-new, state-of-the-art ambulance and lift!

The grant is being administered through the Tennessee Department of Health, with funding coming from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that was passed by Congress and signed by President Donald Trump earlier this year.

U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, along with Congressman Andy Ogles, all supported this historic investment to strengthen healthcare services in rural America.

"This is wonderful news for our community," stated Mayor Keltner. "This new ambulance will help ensure that EMS professionals serving Lewis County will have the latest, modern equipment they need to respond quickly, safely, and effectively when our citizens need them most.”

While the county will retain ownership of the ambulance, it will partner with its existing EMS provider, Maury Regional Hospital, who will use this new ambulance to replace one of their older units that is currently serving Lewis County.
