The Board of Commissioners voted to lift the burn regulations at their regular meeting Thursday evening.
✅We encourage everyone to

🅱️e weather aware
🅱️e responsible
🅱️urn safely
🅱️urn within Georgia Forestry regulations
🚫Never leave a fire unattended for any amount of time and extinguish fully.

👨🏻‍🚒🧑🏻‍🚒Help us prevent wildfires and keep our volunteers safe by doing the following:
✔️Properly discard ci******es.
✔️Keep vehicles off dry grass.
✔️Avoid anything that creates sparks or open flames.
✔️Use hand tools rather than power tools.
✔️Keep anything that can ignite well away from dry vegetation.
✔️Maintain a 10-foot clear area around campfires or burning materials.
✔️Use grills and smokers on gravel or paved surfaces.
✔️Dispose of ashes only in a metal container with a tight lid.
✔️Keep brakes, tires, and tow chains in good condition.
✔️Stay aware of the weather — heat, low humidity, drought, and wind increase fire risk.
✔️Keep water or a hose nearby anytime you’re using a grill, smoker, fire pit, or burning brush.
Don’t wait until you’re threatened by a wildfire to prepare for one. Clear brush away from your home, plan escape routes, and make an emergency plan with your family.

🚫The burn restrictions for Brantley County put in place by the Board of Commissioners on February 12, 2026 remain in effect.
🚫This includes the burning of leaves, limbs, grass and other vegetative debris.
⭕️Exceptions include attended cooking fires in grills or fire pits, Ga Forestry permitted agricultural or forestry burns and authorized government controlled burns.
🚫As a reminder it is illegal to burn ANY man-made materials in the state all year long.

🔥 Update: South Georgia Burn Restrictions Eased

Governor Kemp has issued an executive order easing outdoor burning restrictions in parts of South Georgia.

While this is a step in the right direction, burning is still restricted in 17 South Georgia counties, as shown on the map below. These areas continue to face extreme drought and elevated wildfire risk.

⚠️ What to know:
➡️ Some counties are now allowed to resume limited outdoor burning
➡️ Others remain under restrictions due to ongoing fire danger
➡️ Conditions can change quickly—always check before you burn

Even where restrictions have been eased, extreme caution is still critical. Dry conditions remain across much of the state, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

Community -- as we begin to return home, we understand how hard it is to sit and wait—especially when you’re ready to start putting things back together. The instinct to clean up right away is completely natural.

However, we encourage everyone to hold off on debris removal and cleanup for now. Damage assessments are still actively underway, and clearing debris too soon can make it difficult to accurately document losses. That documentation is critical and could directly impact your eligibility for financial assistance and recovery support.

Once assessments are complete and cleanup can safely begin, the County will open the transfer station for debris disposal at no cost to residents. The transfer station is expected to open within a week. We will share those details as soon as they are finalized.

In the meantime, please continue to monitor the Sheriff’s Office page for updates, including when assessments are complete and cleanup operations can officially resume.

We know this is frustrating—but taking this step now helps ensure you receive the support you may need moving forward.
