***Cold Weather Safety Public
Safety Announcement ***

As temperatures drop, the Hobbs Fire Department reminds everyone to stay warm safely this winter season. Fires caused by space heaters and heat lamps cause injuries, damage, and loss that can be prevented.

Space Heater Safety
β€’ Keep a 3-foot safety zone around all heaters β€” clear of furniture, curtains, and anything that can burn.
β€’ Plug heaters directly into wall outlets β€” never use an extension cord or power strip.
β€’ Turn heaters off before leaving the room or going to sleep.
β€’ Check cords and plugs for cracks or damage before each use.

Heat Lamp Safety (for animals and outdoor use)
β€’ Secure lamps firmly β€” never hang them by the cord.
β€’ Keep lamps away from bedding, hay, or flammable materials.
β€’ Use only lamps rated for their environment (outdoor, barn, etc.).
β€’ Inspect cords regularly and ensure proper grounding.

General Heating Tips
β€’ Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet from heat sources.
β€’ Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working.
β€’ Never use ovens, stoves, or grills to heat your home.

Let’s keep Hobbs safe and warm this winter β€” your safety is our priority.
