Today, members of the Hobart Fire Department had a fantastic time attending the 5th Grade Picnic at the City Ball Park! We enjoyed spending the day with students as they celebrated the completion of their elementary school journey and looked ahead to middle school.

Our firefighters joined in the fun by playing kickball and other sports with the students, building relationships and creating lasting memories. The day even included a quick “rescue” when a young child became stuck in a baby swing. Fortunately, firefighters were able to safely free the child in short order, turning it into just another memorable moment from a great day at the park.

Congratulations to all of the 5th graders on this important milestone. We wish you the very best in the next chapter of your education!

The Hobart Fire Department responded to a serious medical incident involving an approximately 20-year-old male who sustained a traumatic head injury after falling from the exterior area of a moving vehicle.

Upon arrival, emergency crews immediately initiated lifesaving measures and worked to stabilize the patient on scene. Due to the severity of the injuries, UCAN medical helicopter was requested to respond for rapid transport to a regional trauma center for advanced medical treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by law enforcement. No additional information is being released at this time.

This week, Hobart Fire Department members are completing State Certification Driver/Operator courses in both Pumper and Mobile Water Supply operations. Crews have spent the week training hands-on and preparing for final state testing and evaluations next week.

A special thank you to the Gary Fire Department for supplying a tanker/tender truck to assist with this training opportunity. We appreciate the partnership and support!
