MRC Highlights for week of Sept 7

Monday we are CLOSED in honor of Labor Day.

Tuesday is the NEW DANCE CLASS will be on Tuesdays at 9am - Dance Extreme All Stars with Sam Davis. Make sure you come and try it out. NO Breakfast today. Dominos, Euchre and Pool Tournament start at 10am. Mah Jong play is at 10am. MRC Band at 11am. Beginner oil classes at 11am. April’s IT class on ZOOM is at 3pm.

Wednesday is an Art class from 8:30-11:30am with Carol. Stretch Plus is at 9am. Walk & Strength w/Sarah at 10am. Positive Thinking Meditation with Lisa at 11:30am. “Phones with Pam for Iphones” is at noon. Hand and Foot card game, Pay Me Card Game and Euchre all play at 12:30pm.

Thursday Cardio Drumming is at 10am, Bridge play and lessons, Dominos and Pool Tournament start at 10am. Beginner Mah Jong play is at 10am. Lunch is at 11:30am-1pm and is sponsored by The Waters of Hobart and the menu is Chef Salad and birthday cupcakes for dessert. Scrabble at 12:30pm. There is a meeting for those going to the Washington DC trip at 1pm.

Friday “MRC Recycle Fridays” for MRC MEMBERS is from 8am-noon!! Recycle bins will be outside MRC front doors for MRC Members to drop off: (These items ONLY!!) PAPER and CLEAN/WASHED ALUMINUM CANS!! (NO plastic, glass, cardboard, etc.) Chair Yoga stretch with Sue at 9:00am. Walk & Strength w/Sarah at 10am. Diamond Art/Scrapbooking at 10am. It’s Bingo this week at 12:30pm. Bring $5 prize. Come out and join us!!

The following Monday is our MRC Car in our parking lot will be at 11am-2pm with the Winamac Old Auto Club. Also, if you have a car and would like to bring it please do so. We’ll have music and pulled pork lunch for $5. It’s going to be a fun afternoon! All other activities are canceled that day. Also mark you calendars for our outdoor picnic in honor of Jan Houck Lawrence. It will be on Friday, September 25 at noon at new location (this year only) at Veteran’s Park in Hobart.

🌳 STORM DEBRIS CLEANUP & FINAL PASS UPDATE

The City of Hobart is beginning the final pass for storm debris pickup throughout the City.

We want to make sure residents have plenty of notice and one last opportunity to get any remaining storm debris to the curb. At this stage of the cleanup, the City must establish a firm cutoff so crews can systematically complete each area and bring storm debris operations to a close.

Beginning Tuesday, crews will be working throughout the City in the 13 zones shown on the map. Initial truck assignments are:

Zones 1–6: 1 truck in each zone
Zone 7: 2 trucks
Zones 8, 9 & 10: No trucks initially; crews will move into these zones as other areas are completed
Zone 11: 2 trucks
Zone 12: City of Hobart crews
Zone 13: 2 trucks

Crews and equipment will move between zones as areas are completed, so these assignments will change as the final pass progresses. We anticipate the entire final pass will take approximately 2–3 weeks to complete citywide.

📢 THIS IS YOUR LAST PICKUP OPPORTUNITY

If you still have storm debris, please get it to the curb as soon as possible.

Seeing a truck come down your street does not necessarily mean your street is finished. If a truck passes your debris pile without collecting it, please do not assume you were missed. Crews may need to return with different equipment, or the City’s Public Works Department may need to collect debris that larger contractor trucks cannot safely access because of obstacles or site conditions.

Our debris monitoring team will conduct a final sweep of each area before it is officially declared complete. Once an area has been inspected and declared complete following the final pass, crews will not return for additional storm debris placed at the curb.

📍 Please make sure your debris is placed in the public easement:
-If you have a sidewalk, place debris between the road and the sidewalk.
-If there is no sidewalk, the public easement generally extends to the utility poles, fence line, or power lines.
-If none of those markers are present, use approximately 30 feet from the center of the road as a guide.
-Contracted crews can only collect debris located within the public easement. They cannot enter yards or other areas of private property to retrieve debris.

🚫 Please keep debris out of the roadway and do not block sidewalks, fire hydrants, mailboxes, storm drains, utility equipment, or other areas that could prevent crews from safely accessing the pile.

We know this has been a long cleanup process, and we greatly appreciate the patience and cooperation of our residents. Our goal with this final pass is to make sure every area is checked before storm debris operations officially come to an end.

Please share this information with your neighbors so everyone has an opportunity to get any remaining storm debris out for collection. 🌳

SCAM ALERT

The Hobart Fire Department has been made aware of fraudulent donation requests claiming to be on behalf of our department.

Neither the Hobart Fire Department nor our firefighters’ union is calling, mailing, or soliciting residents for donations. Any legitimate fundraisers or sponsorship opportunities will be shared through our official social media pages.

If you receive a suspicious call, letter, or visit requesting donations on our behalf, do not provide money or personal information and report it to the Hobart Police Department. You can also always contact the Hobart Fire Department directly to confirm whether a request is legitimate before donating.

MRC Highlights for week of August 31

Monday Stretch is at 9am. Pinochle is played everyday at 8:30am. Ukulele at 10am. Sarah’s Walk & Strength w/Sarah at 10am. Beanbags on Mondays and Fridays in the front gym at noon. Bocce is in the front gym at 11:30am Monday, Wed. and Fri. Pickleball is every day in the Back Gym. Oil Painting with Laurie at noon-2pm.

The FEMA Intake Center will be in Hobart this Saturday and Sunday. Do you need help getting to the fire station? the MRC is offering rides on Saturday starting at 8 AM to 10 AM, please call the MRC at 219-9471864 and speak with Cheryl on Friday to set up a ride!!

A heartfelt thank you to World Central Kitchen for generously donating meals to members of the Maria Reiner Center! ❤️ We are so grateful they out to our community and allowed us to share a wonderful meal with those at the MRC. World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a nonprofit dedicated to providing fresh nourishing meals to communities facing humanitarian, climate and community crises. WCK believes that food is more than nourishment - it can provide comfort, dignity, hope and a reminder that people care! Their work has provided more than 600 million meals around the world!!!

We also want to thank Sounds of Sarah Inc for taking the time to deliver the meals to us. We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and support!
