Hello everyone! I wanted to take a moment to highlight the City's meetings scheduled for this week, which present fantastic opportunities for community engagement.

It kick off on Wednesday, September 2nd, with the Board of Works meeting at 3:30 PM an ideal platform for those eager to delve into local projects and initiatives. Following this, the City Council meeting willbbe at 6:00 PM this will allow you to express your thoughts and stay informed about important city developments.

The momentum continues on Thursday with the Board of Zoning and Appeals meeting at 5:30 PM, perfect for anyone interested in local development issues. This will seamlessly transition into the Plan Commission meeting at 6:30 PM.

Your involvement is not just welcomed; it is crucial. By participating, you contribute to shaping the future of our community and ensuring that diverse voices are reflected in decision making processes.

Let’s come together to enhance our city and foster a vibrant, inclusive environment for all!

I would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Commander William (Bill) Cox of Hobart American Legion Post 54 for his generous donation of 160 hamburgers and 120 hotdogs. Originally intended for a 9/11 commemorative event honoring our first responders on the 25th anniversary of that tragic day, this food was repurposed to nourish several dozen families in need, providing them with a warm meal. Additionally, I wish to acknowledge Straks and Vantil on Old Ridge Road for graciously allowing us to utilize their property for this charitable initiative, as well as for their contributions of a grill, shirts, and socks that were distributed during the event. The sight of smiling faces among the families we served was truly the most rewarding aspect of the day. Finally, I would like to express my appreciation to all the volunteers who assisted in cooking and distributing the food, as their efforts were instrumental in making this community outreach a success. Together, we demonstrated the power of compassion and solidarity, reinforcing our commitment to supporting one another in times of need.

I totally get where everyone is coming from! It’s frustrating to see how people are jumping to conclusions about race when discussing issues like power outages. Like Gary needs the help more since their a primary Black city, but lets us not forget about East Chicago and Lake Station, with their vibrant Hispanic communities, are just a part of the Big picture also.

This storm was no joke it stretched a whopping 320 miles from Iowa to Ohio, leaving chaos in its wake. It’s not just about one area or demographic; it’s about the whole region facing the aftermath together. Power outages affect everyone, regardless of where they live or their background. Im not supporting Nipsco. But they do have teams from other states here assisting with getting everyone power back on.

We should be focusing on the recovery efforts and supporting each other through this tough time, rather than getting sidetracked by racial narratives. Everyone deserves to have their voice heard and their needs met, especially after a storm this devastating.

So let's rally together, help our neighbors, and push for the resources we all need to get back on our feet! Please keep calling Nipsco to report your still out of power and also report it to in211.org.
