Tennessee State University is hosting its annual Small Farm Expo today. I joined their leadership breakfast this morning and heard from Senator Hagerty, University President Dwayne Tucker, and others. Small American farmers are feeling the impact of international policies and the broader economy. Factors like the prolonged war in Ukraine are raising operating costs across their industry, particularly the cost of diesel. I appreciated the conversations and the attention given to Tennessee agriculture.

Earlier today, I joined TDOT Commissioner Will Reid, representatives from the Federal Highway Administration and Norfolk Southern Railway, and other Hamilton County leaders to celebrate the ceremonial signing of the Wilcox Boulevard Bridge replacement project. Supported largely by a federal RAISE grant, this project replaces the nearly 70-year-old bridge carrying 18,000+ vehicles each day. The new structure will facilitate commerce over the DeButts Rail Yard and ensure reliable emergency response services for decades to come.

I am advocating that the next project over a train track in Hamilton County be at Hamill Road.

I was glad to meet the new boys basketball 🏀 coach for Sale Creek High School at their fundraiser breakfast this morning. Coach Glen Hicks is a proven winner. Good things are in store for the Panthers.

It was an honor to meet with the Navy League of Greater Chattanooga today to thank them for their service. Most of the County Delegation was there for a panel discussion about accomplishments in the 114th General Assembly.

One of the great things about Tennessee is how much we value our veterans. We adopted the moniker “volunteer state” because our ancestors volunteered in overwhelming numbers to keep our country free.

Good News in Hixson today as we broke ground for the new elementary school that will partner with its neighbor, the North River YMCA. It will be open in 2 years. This school will combine my Alma Mater, Alpine Crest, with DuPont and Rivermont schools. The size of the school and all the amenities are not what make a school appealing. It is the engagement of parents, teachers, staff and students. This new school will be something our community will be proud of in the coming years.
