You always assume that when you have lived and worked 48 years of your life in the same town that people know who you are and what you have done in the Hitchcock ISD. For 40 years, I worked as a librarian and teacher in the Hitchcock ISD and sponsored many extra curricular activities (cheerleading (26 years), flags and twirlers (15 years), Student Council (12 years), along with the chess club, newspaper, One Act Play, and National Junior Honor Society. While working for the HISD, I served on nearly every committee of the HISD at some point in my career.
For the next two years, I volunteered and was a substitute teacher for the Hitchcock ISD "Kids First" Head Start and was also a substitute teacher for Hitchcock High School. I then ran for the Hitchcock ISD Board of Trustees and have served for two terms on the HISD Board of Trustees. I am currently serving as the Board President and Board Liaison to the Hitchcock "Kids First" Head Start. In those six years of serving on the Board of Trustees, I have not missed one meeting. I prepare for the Board meetings by reading, studying and researching the issues on each Board Agenda.
The Hitchcock ISD Board of Trustees have worked together for the past several years as one unit. It is a shame that instead of agreeing to disagree on a recent item and continue to work together on all other items that people have allowed one point to divide them as a Board.
I do not know how I began to receive the postings of a current Alvin ISD Board member in her re-election campaign, but I have read the postings as they appear on Face Book. Although I have noticed things that are being done in the Hitchcock ISD Board election that do not follow the Rules, Regulations, and State law, I refuse to run a negative campaign as is being done in the Alvin ISD Board of Trustees election. I am known for following Rules and Regulations and I will continue to follow those Rules and Regulations as written even though many times I do not personally agree with said Rules and Regulations.
As a supporter of the Hitchcock ISD. I served as the Secretary of the last School Bond Election Campaign and I am currently serving on the Steering Committee for the Hitchcock Education Foundation. The Bond Election brought a new primary school and high school to the HISD. The School District also saw a new concession stand, track, and turf for the football field at Hitchcock High School. The Hitchcock Education Foundation will support the teachers of the Hitchcock ISD with monetary Grants.
In the community of Hitchcock, I have served as an officer in the elementary school PTO, Boy Scout Den Leader, Band Association officer, and as a Mid-Way 6 Soccer Club officer. For several years, I also taught Vacation Bible School at the First Baptist Church of Hitchcock. I am currently serving on the Hitchcock Public Library Board of Directors. In fact when the Public Library was very first organized, I cataloged the first books, served as a volunteer librarian and was a member of the Board of Directors. I have also worked on various projects for the Hitchcock Chamber of Commerce.
So for 48 years, I have served the Hitchcock ISD in some capacity along with working in the community of Hitchcock. I would like to continue to serve the Hitchcock ISD as a member of the Board of Trustees. Vote for Dianne James on May 10th for the Hitchcock ISD Board of Trustees. Thank you for your support and vote.
