Summers County Sheriff’s Office Welcomes Three New Members to Team 900

Today, the Summers County Sheriff’s Office grew a little stronger as Judge Mann administered the oath of office to three new members of our team.

We are proud to welcome Michael Hoyle and Mathew Lowry as our newest Deputies, along with Alicia Ward as our new Animal Control Officer.

We are grateful to have each of them join Team 900 and appreciate their willingness to serve. We look forward to watching them grow in their new roles and serve the citizens of Summers County with professionalism, dedication, and pride.

Summers County Sheriff’s Office

The Summers County Sheriff’s Office responded to Pipestem State Park in the area of the lookout tower following a report from two Good Samaritans who observed a vehicle being operated by a driver they believed to be possibly intoxicated.

Upon arrival, Sheriff Faris located Samuel Walker passed out behind the wheel of the vehicle. The vehicle was still running and was in drive. Mr. Walker was also found holding a knife while unconscious.

After several attempts, deputies, assisted by members of the West Virginia State Police, were able to wake Mr. Walker and safely begin their investigation.

During the course of the investigation, deputies located fentanyl, gabapentin, and hydrochloride pills inside the vehicle. Three fi****ms were also recovered, one of which was determined to have been reported stolen from Florida.

Mr. Walker was subsequently arrested and charged with three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, DUI, and Prohibited Person in Possession of a Fi***rm.

The Summers County Sheriff’s Office would like to commend the two Good Samaritans who recognized the potentially dangerous situation and contacted law enforcement. Their decision to report the suspected impaired driver may have prevented a serious crash or injury.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Today, the Summers County Sheriff’s Office was honored to serve as the funeral es**rt for Kile Lewis Farmer.

Kile was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served in combat during the Vietnam Conflict. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service in connection with ground operations against hostile forces.

Among Kile’s proudest honors was being named an Honorary Deputy of the Summers County Sheriff’s Department by Sheriff Garry E. Wheeler—a distinction he held close to his heart.

Kile’s commitment to service did not end with his military career. He instilled that same spirit of service in his family. Two of his sons and one grandson went on to serve as deputies with the Summers County Sheriff’s Office.

Today, we were honored to return that service by es**rting one of our own home.

Rest easy, Kile. Your service, sacrifice, and legacy will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

Today, Sheriff Faris had the opportunity to meet with West Virginia Senator Vince Deeds. During the meeting, Senator Deeds presented the Summers County Sheriff’s Office with $4,000 in funding to support the purchase of our new drone.

This generous contribution is a tremendous boost to our drone program and will greatly enhance our ability to serve and protect the citizens of Summers County through improved search and rescue operations, disaster response, and criminal investigations.

We are incredibly grateful to Senator Deeds for his support and investment in public safety. Thanks to his contribution, we are now just $5,000 away from reaching our fundraising goal.

We also want to thank everyone in our community who has supported this project. Every donation and contribution brings us one step closer to making this important resource a reality.

On May 25, deputies with the Summers County Sheriff’s Office responded to a UTV accident on True Road in the Pipestem area of Summers County. The UTV was occupied by multiple juveniles. One of the passengers, Ryleigh Goins, was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious bodily injuries.

There are moments in this profession that remind us just how fragile life can be. While not every story has the ending we pray for, today we are blessed to share one that is a true testament to God’s grace, the power of prayer, and the strength of the human spirit.

After several months of medical treatment and rehabilitation in Roanoke, Virginia, and Georgia, Ryleigh was able to return home to Summers County today for the first time since the accident. Chief Deputy Adkins was honored to provide a police es**rt as she made her journey back home.

From the very beginning, countless people lifted Ryleigh and her family up in prayer. Today, we have witnessed those prayers being answered. While she still has a road to recovery ahead of her, Ryleigh has made incredible progress and has surpassed what many of her doctors expected at this stage. We give God all the glory for the healing He has already provided and pray that He continues to strengthen and guide Ryleigh through the days ahead.

The Summers County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses, therapists, first responders, and everyone who played a role in Ryleigh’s care. Most importantly, we thank God for watching over her and bringing her safely back home.

Please continue to keep Ryleigh and the Goins family in your prayers. We know that God is not finished with her story, and we look forward to celebrating each milestone as she continues her recovery.
