*Overnight Auto Burglaries/ Attempt Auto Thefts*

We are investigating auto burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours in the south east portion of the community. Several vehicles were entered in an area bounded by County Line Road, Garfield, Eight street and the south village limits.
We have attached a video showing two of these offenders. The vehicle used in these crimes was reported stolen from another community and later recovered in Chicago. The intent of this crime is auto theft. They are attempting to locate unlocked vehicles with the key FOBs inside. There were no auto thefts overnight in Hinsdale; however we did have a number of unlocked vehicles entered and miscellaneous items and one wallet stolen.

Please lock your vehicles each and every night. We will have additional cars in the neighborhood. We ask resident to contact the police if they see activity similar to that shown on the video in the overnight/ early morning hours. We ask resident not to confront anyone as history has shown that these offenders are frequently armed. If you observe suspicious activity, please call the police and we will take it from there.

***Overnight Burglaries and Auto Thefts***

We will occasionally reach out to residents when a crime pattern starts to develop in the area, but has not yet touched our community. This is one of those occasions: as a reminder, Lock Your Cars and remove your FOBs, as crimes related to overnight auto thefts and burglaries have been increasing in the area. Please pass this on to family members and neighbors.

If you observe suspicious persons or vehicles during the overnight hours, please notify us immediately by dialing 9-1-1.

Thank You

**2026 E-Bike and Electric Scooter Ordinance**

The summary below outlines the Village of Hinsdale's E-Bike and Scooter Ordinance. We ask that parents evaluate any products you or your child currently have and ensure they comply with local and state requirements.

**E-Bikes**

Electric bicycles must have a motor that does not exceed 750 watts, includes pedals, and display a label that provides information on classification, motor wattage, and top assisted speed. While these products may allow for performance modifications, any tampering that alters their performance will void their classification. Performance modifications are only authorized by manufacturers or distributors.

**E-Scooters**

Illinois State law and the Hinsdale Ordinance require operators to be at least 18 years old. Hinsdale permits adults to operate E-Scooters on most village roads and sidewalks at a maximum speed of 10 mph. E-Scooters are not allowed in the Business District, and all riders are expected to adhere to Illinois Bicycle Rules of the Road. E-Scooters are ONLY allowed in communities that authorize their use.

**E-Motorcycles**

Brands such as Surron, Talaria, Tuttio, and E-Ride are classified as motorcycles and are strictly prohibited on any public way. Operators of these motorcycles are violating state law, and citations for these offenses will affect their drivers license or ability to obtain a drivers license.

**Other Electric Devices**

All other electric motorized devices not specified in this ordinance are prohibited.

**Parental Responsibility**

The police department will continue to issue citations to parents or guardians if their child violates the ordinance. Citations include a mandatory court appearance and fines of up to $750.
