Press Release:

On June 4, 2026 at approximately 0857 hours, a 911 call came in reporting that a 35 year old male was found not conscious and not breathing on Plain Road. The calling parties were unsure at the time if the male had been struck by a vehicle. The calling parties were able to update 911 that the male was again breathing prior first responders arriving.

Upon arrival, first responders encountered three individuals who had located the injured male on the ground and stopped to render aid. The actions of these individuals more likely than not saved his life. By remaining calm and following the instructions provided by the 911 dispatcher, they were able to help prevent further complications until emergency personnel arrived.

Every day, people demonstrate that there is a great deal of good in the world. Once again, the best in humanity shines through.

At this time, it does not appear that this incident was a hit-and-run, but rather an accident involving a stand-up electric scooter. The rider sustained a significant head injury as well as abrasions to his hands. First Responders on scene were Hinsdale Police Department, Hinsdale Fire Department, Rescue Inc., with the assistance of Hinsdale Water Department for traffic. He was transported by UMass Lifeflight to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Anyone who may have witnessed this accident, which occurred on Plain Road near Fox Run Drive, is asked to contact Hinsdale Police Department, Chief Melissa Evans at (603)336-5723.

Good Morning,

We are currently in possession of vehicle parts that were left behind early this morning after multiple mailboxes and their heavy-duty posts were struck and destroyed. The damage to the vehicle involved would have been significant.

If you were driving that vehicle:

1: We hope you are okay.
2: Please contact us to discuss the situation, including the consequences of leaving the scene of an accident and potential criminal mischief charges.

We are actively working to identify the individual involved and will pursue an arrest warrant if necessary. Taking care of this voluntarily is far less inconvenient than the alternative.

The vehicle appears to have a number marking—maybe their favorite NASCAR driver? Could this be a fan of Spencer Boyd?

If anyone has information or camera footage of a vehicle traveling westbound on Brattleboro Road after 4:00 AM on 04/27/2026 or has any additional information, please contact Chief Melissa Evans at 603-336-5723 or [email protected].

There was a recent comparison regarding the gates up at the old bridges to the 'Cold War' boarder crossings.

We've assigned our smallest (and arguably most vigilant) officer to keep an eye on the closed bridges. Her specialties include snack detection, morale boosting, and reminding everyone that sometimes things aren't quite as dramatic as they sound.

That said, we do want to take a moment to respectfully address a recent comparison that's been circulating.

References to "Cold War border crossings" — particularly the Berlin Wall — carry real historical weight. That period was marked by families being separated, heavily armed checkpoints, restricted movement, and, in many cases, people risking — and sometimes losing — their lives attempting to cross. It was a time defined by fear, control, and very real human consequences.

What we have here in Hinsdale and Brattleboro is something very different.

The Anna Hunt Marsh and Charles Dana bridges are currently closed for safety reasons due to structural concerns, narcotic use, illegal dumping and past vandalism. They remain under state control, with future plans for rehabilitation. There are no checkpoints, no restrictions on movement between communities, and no barriers preventing travel between towns.

In fact, crossing between Brattleboro and Hinsdale is simple and fully accessible via the new bridge just down river a bit, which was built specifically to maintain safe and reliable travel.

We understand the desire to make a strong visual point — but it's equally important that we keep comparisons grounded in reality, especially when they involve moments in history that carried such profound human impact.

Our focus remains where it should be:
✔️ Public safety
✔️ Responsible infrastructure management
✔️ Keeping both communities connected in practical, realistic ways

And, of course...

🐾 Occasional assistance from Officer Olive.

Thank you to everyone working together to keep these conversations thoughtful, respectful, and productive.
