25 years later, we remember. 🇺🇸
On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a tragedy that forever changed us.
Today, we pause to remember the 2,977 lives lost, the families who continue to carry their absence, and the survivors whose lives were forever changed.
As firefighters, we hold especially close the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice. They answered the call without knowing what awaited them. They climbed while others descended. They demonstrated the true meaning of courage, service, and sacrifice.
We also remember the first responders who survived that day but later lost their lives to illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero — and those who continue to battle those illnesses today.
A quarter of a century has passed. Generations are growing up with no memory of that September morning. It is now our responsibility to keep the memory of those we lost alive and to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.
We remember the lives lost.
We honor the heroes.
We remember the unity that followed.
We will never forget.
