πŸš‘ Medical Monday πŸš‘

On Mondays, we’ll be sharing educational content, safety tips, health information, and insights into the EMS and emergency services world. Whether it’s prevention, preparedness, or understanding what first responders do, our goal is to keep our community informed and healthy.

June is Men’s Health Month β€” a time to encourage the men in our lives to prioritize their physical health and well-being. Routine check-ups, preventative screenings, exercise, healthy eating, hydration, and getting enough rest all play an important role in staying healthy. Many health conditions can be prevented or treated more effectively when caught early. This month serves as a reminder to take care of your body, listen to warning signs, and make your health a priority β€” not just in June, but all year long. June is Pride Month β€” a time to recognize and support members of the LGBTQ+ community, while promoting kindness, respect, and inclusion for all.

At the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department, we believe every person deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported. No matter who you are, where you come from, or who you love, our commitment remains the same: serving our community with compassion, professionalism, and respect. This month, and every month, we encourage treating one another with understanding, dignity, and kindness. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

PTSD can affect anyone β€” first responders, veterans, survivors of trauma, and people in our own communities. Many battles are fought silently, and healing is not always visible. During PTSD Awareness Month, we stand with those living with post-traumatic stress disorder and encourage compassion, understanding, and support. Reaching out for help is not weakness β€” it is strength. πŸ’šYou are not alone.

Today's Firefighter Friday feature is..... Tim Ellsworth!

He describes the department as a family β€” and that couldn’t be more true. We support one another through trainings, emergency calls, our shared dedication to serving and protecting the community, and through both the challenges and successes we face β€” not only on calls, but in our everyday lives as well.

πŸš‘ Medical Monday πŸš‘

On Mondays, we’ll be sharing educational content, safety tips, health information, and insights into the EMS and emergency services world. Whether it’s prevention, preparedness, or understanding what first responders do, our goal is to keep our community informed and healthy. Stay tuned each week for helpful information, quick facts, and topics that matter to you and your family!

This week’s topic is asthma. May is also National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month β€” a time intentionally recognized during peak allergy season, when asthma symptoms and attacks can become more common.According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), more than 100 million people in the United States live with asthma and/or allergies. Asthma and allergies can be complex conditions, and treatment and prevention often involve more than simply taking medication. In fact, asthma accounts for approximately 5 million doctor visits and 1 million emergency room visits each year. Understanding triggers, recognizing symptoms early, and having a treatment plan can make a major difference in managing asthma safely and effectively.

Memorial Day is a time of remembrance. Today, we honor the courageous service members who laid down their lives for our nation. Their dedication and sacrifice gave us the freedoms we enjoy each day. From all of us at the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department, we remember and honor our fallen heroes.

As of now, our town parade is still on for 11:30! Our town will continue to monitor the weather- if it's still raining, we'll cancel the parade and head straight to the church for the Memorial Day Services.
