CELEBRATE WITH US ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18‼️🎉 drop in for a walk through Open House.

A nonprofit is still a business.

There is payroll. Bills. Contracts. Insurance. Banking. Bookkeeping. Budgets. Financial reporting. Strong financial management systems and internal controls.

There are local, state, and federal registrations, licenses, filings, regulations, and compliance requirements that must be maintained.

And grants don’t just appear.

Funding opportunities have to be researched. Grants have to be written and submitted. Budgets have to be developed. Supporting documents have to be gathered. Deadlines have to be met. And when funding is awarded, every dollar has to be managed according to the terms of the grant, documented, tracked, reported, and reconciled.

There are records to maintain, reports to submit, partnerships to nurture, programs to operate, and a Board of Directors with fiduciary responsibilities.

Then there is the work people actually see.

That means helping individuals returning to the community navigate employment, housing, identification documents, transportation, healthcare, referrals, and the many practical barriers that can stand between release and stability.

Nonprofit does not mean “not a business.”

It means the business exists to advance a mission rather than distribute profits to owners.

Compassion is essential. But compassion without infrastructure is difficult to sustain. Because if we want the mission to last, we have to build an organization strong enough to carry it.

That is part of the work, too. Cheers to everyone who’s part of it then and now!

Labor Day gives us a moment to recognize the people whose work keeps our communities moving, and at LCRC, that work is given freely.

Thousands of hours of labor and counting!

Today, we say thank you to our volunteers.

They answer phones, help with paperwork, make calls, organize resources, mentor, encourage, transport, listen, solve problems and sometimes simply sit with someone who needs to know they have not been forgotten.

There is no paycheck attached to what they give. They give their time because they believe people deserve another chance and that successful reentry strengthens our entire community.

We believe people should have the opportunity to move forward, build stability and create a life beyond the circumstances that brought them to this moment.

To our participants: keep taking the next step.
