Last week, Liberty College & Career Academy proudly sent four students to Atlanta to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference after earning state gold medals earlier this year. Cassidy Roberts represented LCCA in Baking and Pastry, while Carley Althouse, Marcel Stewart, and Jaron West competed in Occupational Health and Safety against the top students from across the nation.

Competing on the national stage is a tremendous accomplishment and provided our students with an invaluable opportunity to showcase their skills, gain experience, and represent both our school and Georgia. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, dedication, and professionalism throughout the competition. Congratulations to these outstanding students for reaching this level of achievement. LCCA looks forward to building on this success and returning next year bigger and stronger!

ANOTHER OFFICIAL SELECTION!
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

🎥 TRUDY EARNS OFFICIAL SELECTION AT THE INDEPENDENT SHORTS AWARDS 🎥

What started as a classroom project in Southeast Georgia is now being recognized on the international festival stage.

We are excited to announce that TRUDY, the student-produced historical drama from Liberty College & Career Academy, has been named an Official Selection of the Independent Shorts Awards, one of the world's most recognized monthly competitions for independent filmmakers. The festival receives submissions from filmmakers across the globe and celebrates excellence in directing, acting, cinematography, screenwriting, editing, and production design.

Set in coastal Georgia in 1858, TRUDY tells the story of an enslaved couple, Trudy and Amos, as they confront the heartbreaking reality of family separation. Running just under fifteen minutes, the film was written, produced, filmed, and edited through Liberty College & Career Academy's Film Program, giving students a rare opportunity to create a professional-level narrative production from concept to completion.

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that TRUDY was created by high school students working alongside local actors, community partners, and volunteers who shared a commitment to authentic storytelling. Every scene challenged our students to develop skills in filmmaking, leadership, collaboration, historical research, and creative problem-solving.

Directed by Xaimary Torres Ortiz, Liberty College & Career Academy's Class of 2026 Valedictorian, TRUDY continues to build momentum on the festival circuit and bring attention to the talent and dedication of student filmmakers in Georgia.

We are incredibly proud of our cast, crew, supporters, and community partners who helped make this achievement possible. Their work is proving that powerful stories can come from anywhere—even a high school film program in Hinesville, Georgia.

🎬 TRUDY NAMED FINALIST AT THE FUSION INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL! 🎬

We are proud to announce that TRUDY, the student-produced historical drama from Liberty College & Career Academy's Film Program, has been named a Finalist in the Fusion International Film Festival.

Set in coastal Georgia in 1858, TRUDY is a 14-minute, 57-second historical drama that tells the story of Trudy and Amos, an enslaved couple facing the devastating threat of family separation. Directed by Xaimary Torres Ortiz, Liberty College & Career Academy's Class of 2026 Valedictorian, the film was created entirely through our student film program and provided hands-on experience in directing, cinematography, sound, editing, production design, costuming, and historical storytelling.

This latest recognition continues an exciting festival journey for TRUDY, which has earned selections and honors from film festivals in the United States and around the world. Being named a Finalist at Fusion International Film Festival places TRUDY among a distinguished group of independent films recognized for excellence in filmmaking and storytelling.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is that TRUDY was created by high school students who committed themselves to telling an important story with professionalism, historical authenticity, and artistic integrity. Every recognition received by this film reflects the dedication of our students, cast, crew, community partners, and supporters who believed in the project from the beginning.

Congratulations to everyone who helped bring TRUDY to life. From a classroom in Hinesville, Georgia, to international film festivals, this project continues to demonstrate the power of student voices and the impact of meaningful storytelling.
