Good early morning! Conditions become increasingly unsettled from early this afternoon through late tonight as a cold front stalls across southeast Georgia. This will yield widespread showers and thunderstorms, with multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the period. The greatest risk for excessive rainfall will likely remain over the I-16 corridor between the City of Savannah and Metter, GA. Flood Advisories and Flash Flood Warnings may be needed for portions of southeast Georgia later today

Flash Flooding Possible Across Southeast Georgia Today

OVERVIEW:Conditions will become increasingly unsettled from early this afternoon through late tonight as a cold front stalls and asea breeze forms over southeast Georgia. These boundaries will serve as the focus for widespread showers andthunderstorms, with multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall anticipated throughout the period. The greatest risk forexcessive rainfall will likely remain over the Interstate 16 corridor between the City of Savannah and Metter, Georgia.Flood Advisories and Flash Flood Warnings may be needed for portions of southeast Georgia later today.
TIMINGHeavy Rain/Flash Flooding:● The greatest threat for heavy rainfall and flash flooding is expected between 4 PM and 7PM. However, isolated instances of localized flooding may develop as early as this afternoonand continue into late this evening.
HAZARDS & IMPACTS● Total Rainfall Amounts: 1-2” along the coastline and 2-3” across inland areas, withlocalized higher amounts.● Numerous roadways and/or intersections may become flooded, leading to hazardous travelconditions and possible road closures. Some dirt roads may wash out.● Vehicles may become stranded and/or stalled in flood waters.● Some smaller streams and creeks may flood, resulting in localized flooding of adjacentlow-lying areas.
NWS ALERTS ● None at this time.
FORECAST CHALLENGES● Much of southeast Georgia remains under exceptional drought conditions. Over the pastseveral days, a wetter pattern has led to significant rainfall in some areas. The torrentialdownpours today may result in flash flooding if they occur over urbanized areas, low-lyingareas, or locations that recently received heavy rain.

Join us for the Liberty County Hurricane Prep Rally on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lowe’s Home Improvement, 735 W. Oglethorpe Highway, Hinesville, GA.
This is a free, open-house-style community event designed to help residents prepare for and respond to disasters. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with local emergency managers, first responders, and preparedness experts.
Topics will include:

Emergency evacuation planning
Food and water safety
Disaster preparedness tips
Insurance and recovery resources
Pet safety and animal care
Medical, critical care, and health concerns

Come out, ask questions, gather resources, and learn how to better prepare your household before the next storm.

Liberty County Emergency Management Agency was proud to host our 2026 Hurricane Season Kickoff Meeting and Hurricane Tabletop on May 21, 2026, at the Board of Commissioners Boardroom.

We were honored to have representatives from all ESFs, our Mayors, Commissioners, partner agencies, and community stakeholders join us as we prepare for the 2026 hurricane season.

A special thank you to Carl Barnes with the National Weather Service in Charleston, SC, for opening the meeting with an excellent briefing on the upcoming hurricane season and sharing valuable information.

During the meeting, attendees reviewed key topics including:

The 2026 seasonal outlook and anticipated hazards

Updates to Liberty County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan and hurricane annex

Evacuation zones, shelter operations, and transportation coordination

Communication and public information strategies

Resource readiness, staging, and mutual aid coordination

Preparedness is a team effort, and Liberty County is stronger when we plan together. Thank you to all of our partners for your continued commitment to the safety, resilience, and readiness of our community.
