Jessieโ€™s goal? To immerse herself in Japanese culture, learn how global markets operate, and build cross-cultural communication skills. ๐ŸŒ Highlight of the Day: Imehana Villas-Boas! ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท

Meet Imehana, a UH Hilo student who was majoring in Linguistics with a minor in Japanese Studies! She graduated last semester and is originally from Haสปikลซ, Maui, she took the opportunity to study abroad at Hankuk University in Seoul, South Korea. From learning basic Korean to exploring the city, trying new foods, and experiencing a new culture, Imehana made the most of her study abroad journey! โœˆ๏ธโค๏ธ

UH Hilo alum Ann Inouye credits her study abroad experience in Saitama and Okinawa, Japan, with transforming her life and career.

From living with a host family to building lifelong international friendships and embracing Japanese philosophies, her time abroad taught her resilience, independence, and deep cultural connection.

Today, as a clinical psychologist in Maryland, Ann still uses the empathy and open worldview she gained in Japan to guide her work every day.

Show them around: Guide visiting students on a fun tour of the UH Hilo campus.
Talk story: Introduce them to local culture and campus life.
