Monday nights Council Meeting was very Special with a very Happy and Tearful atmosphere. Not only was it a Reunion of sorts with seeing our former Town Manager Travis Jackson reunite with us to see his beautiful daughter now Town Manager Retta Jackson extend her ability to give so much to her next employer, with her knowledge she earned from her father she passed the Paton on to our newly appointed Treasure LeAnn Surratt which has become one of the best in her field as Treasure of the TOH
She is more than capable of taking over as our new Town Manger and I look forward to the things she will do for the Town.
On other notes I was very proud to hear Mayor Crowder give a very Powerful Statement with facts to AEP about there Rates going up especially hurting our Senior Citizens in the TOH and Carroll County. Supervisor Jody Early was at the meeting and echo this issue and will also take it to the BOS to send this message to Richmond. This should be followed up with all elected officials in Va.

So sorry for the loss of the Parnell's Dog there our personal and loved pets we care for.
I had The Chief of Police on this starting about 10 days ago when they ( Bears ) were causing serious problems at my Grand Daughters house. she video 4 of them around the home and all over the front porch 2 Cubs and Two Adult Bears. The Chief spent all day getting information and responding to me on the out come. Our findings were that our local Game Warden would not respond and when my Granddaughter got in touch with him he told her to just shhhh it away and make noise and they would leave ( not true) our Chief kept working on it and was able to get another Game Warden to help. He stopped at my Granddaughters house and talked to her with some help.but the problem is they ( Game Warden) will NOT catch and replace Bears Anymore and if you kill it there's a Heavy Fine unless there aggressive toward you are your family. I know there will be a few of you that disagree with this but this issue needs to be resolved before someone are another Pet gets hurt.

I like all of us to wish DAVID a very happy birthday today. If anyone deserves it, it would be him. He adored his wife and his company. He is a very decent and truthful man.
He is honest to the core. And especially, he doesn't do unon others as they do him. He believes in the Lord and Lord, blessing him everyday. It not everyday you get to meet a man like this. I am so proud of him

Hillsville Town Councilman David Young shares the gratitude that the Mayor has so graciously shared from our small and beautiful town we call home. Be respectful and safe.

As Mayor of Hillsville and on behalf of the Hillsville Town Council, town employees and citizens of the Town of Hillsville, we are beyond excited to welcome everyone back for the 54th Annual Gun Show & Flea Market.

The past couple of years have been challenging for all of us, and it was with deep regret we were not able to have a show last year for the first time in more than 50 years. We are so grateful and thankful to be able to once again host the Gun Show & Flea Market in 2021.

In order to ensure everyone's safety and the best experience possible, Hillsville Town officials have worked with the Virginia Department of Health under the relaxation of Governor Ralph Northam’s Executive Order for the pandemic and they are continuing to act as a facilitator for the market. We sincerely hope that your time with us in Hillsville is enjoyable and we want to extend you the best of luck in finding many bargains.

Over the years, the gun show and flea market has blossomed from one that started as a very small show to one of the biggest east of the Mississippi. There are so many people to thank for making our show grow into what it has become over the years. From the many wonderful folks at the Grover King VFW Post 1115, to the citizens who welcome our guests, to the vendors who provide unique shopping opportunities, I would like to personally thank each and every one who played a role in our special show.

Words can’t begin to express the amount of gratitude we have for all our town citizens who provide spaces for vendors and parking for shoppers visiting our area. We also are greatly indebted to the VFW and the other citizens who open their land and put so much effort into making the Gun Show & Flea Market such a great event. While you are visiting Hillsville, we hope you will take time to check out the very fine restaurants that have been added to our downtown area on North Main Street.

We would also want to express our appreciation to the Hillsville Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Virginia State Police and VDOT for road signs and directions in and out of the show, Thank you all for your support that's provided year round, but especially during this event. These departments always do a great job with traffic control and ensuring the safety of everyone. Likewise, we would like to give a special thank you to all the volunteer rescue squads and fire departments that go beyond the call of duty in keeping everyone safe during this busy extended weekend.

We hope the weather is beautiful and we can all enjoy another Labor Day Weekend in Hillsville. On behalf of Hillsville Town Council, we welcome you to our town and wish you a great weekend of shopping. We hope you will come back often and soon.

Sincerely,

Greg Crowder

Mayor of the Town of Hillsville

Hillsville has a massive show coming on the 4th

This year’s “Celebration of American Spirit” will be held in Hillsville on July 4, with a parade, live music, food and free watermelon.

The celebration this year is free to attend and sponsored by the Town of Hillsville, the Friends of Hillsville and Carroll County.

The parade begins at 4 p.m. on North Main Street. The ACE Party Band takes the stage at the Grover King VFW Post 1115 at 7 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

In an announcement this week, The Friends of Hillsville encouraged visitors to wear their patriotic colors and to get ready to cut a rug. “Get out your red, white and blue and your dancing shoes. Hillsville’s Independence Day celebration is going to be grand.”

The Carroll County Historical Society will be launching its own unique celebration during the Hillsville parade this year, with a float and walk to celebrate voting rights for women. The walk will feature 100+ women walking with and riding the float, dressed in white to honor the women that worked tirelessly during the women’s suffrage movement of 1920. The event was originally scheduled to take place on the 100th year anniversary last year, but was canceled due to the pandemic.

Anyone interested in participating in the walk is encouraged to contact Shelby Inscore Puckett at [email protected], or by messenger on the Carroll County Historical Society’s page. Thanks Janet E. Crowder
