🎒📚 Back to School Photos— Think Before You Post!

With school starting Tuesday, the Hillside Police Department would like to remind parents to be mindful of the personal information they share about their children on social media.

Many popular “Back to School” signs include details such as a child’s name, age, grade, teacher, school, favorite activities, or other personal information. While these details may seem harmless, sharing too much publicly can inadvertently provide information about your child to people you don’t know.

📸 Our recommendation:
Try not to include school names, grades, ages, teacher/classroom info, or uniform logos/badges. Let’s keep our children’s details private.

Last night’s National Night Out was an incredible success, and we couldn’t have done it without the overwhelming support of our amazing community!

On behalf of the Hillside Police Department and the Township of Hillside, thank you to every resident who came out to spend the evening with us. It was truly a pleasure connecting with so many families, sharing conversations, laughter, and building the relationships that make our community stronger.

A special thank you goes to the dedicated officers, civilian staff, township employees and volunteers who generously gave their personal time to make this event possible. Your commitment to serving our residents extends far beyond the badge, and your willingness to engage with the community in meaningful ways is deeply appreciated.

The Township of Hillside invites new & expecting parents to attend the Hillside Township Community Baby Shower on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hillside Municipal Building.

This free community event will provide valuable resources and support for new and growing families. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive free giveaways (while supplies last), and representatives from the WIC Program will be on site to answer questions, provide information, and assist eligible families with available services.

El Municipio de Hillside invita a los futuros padres y a los padres de recién nacidos a asistir al Baby Shower Comunitario del Municipio de Hillside, que se llevará a cabo el martes 14 de julio de 2026, de 10:00 a. m. a 2:00 p. m., en el Edificio Municipal de Hillside.

Este evento comunitario gratuito ofrecerá valiosos recursos y apoyo para las familias nuevas y en crecimiento. Los asistentes tendrán la oportunidad de recibir obsequios gratuitos (hasta agotar existencias), y representantes del Programa WIC estarán presentes para responder preguntas, brindar información y ayudar a las familias elegibles a acceder a los servicios disponibles.

This past Wednesday (6/10) members of the Hillside Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth PD Drone Unit & Union County SWAT joined forces with staff at Deanna Taylor elementary school for a fun filled field day. Students had the opportunity to speak with the many different Officers, Detectives, & Sheriffs, as well as experience some of the equipment and tools that they use in their day to day duties. Thanks to all who volunteered their time to make this day possible.

Detective Blakey & Officer Wilson are both members of HPD who are also assigned to the Union County SWAT team.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and the membership of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, as they mourn the loss of one of their own, Officer Joseph DeVito.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Union County Sheriff’s Office announces the tragic passing of Sheriff’s Officer Joseph DeVito, who lost his life this morning in a motor vehicle accident.

Officer DeVito was a dedicated member of the Sheriff’s Office who served with honor, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the community. His loss is deeply felt by his colleagues, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are currently under investigation by the New Jersey State Police. No further details are available at this time.

“We are devastated by the loss of Officer DeVito,” said Sheriff Peter Corvelli. “He was not only a valued member of our department, but also a respected colleague and friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Union County Sheriff’s Office asks the public to keep Officer DeVito’s family, loved ones, and fellow officers in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this tragic loss.
