The Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Service provides 100% free emergency medical response to Hillsdale residents and surrounding communities on a mutual aid basis 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our emergency calls can include: Cardiac arrests, strokes, automobile/motorcycle accidents, OB/GYN emergencies, allergic reactions, falls, diabetic emergencies, seizures, choking, high fever, flu, etc. We r

espond with unwavering resolve and we rapidly jump up to help our neighbors and protect the public – 24 hours per day/7 days per week, all as volunteers. We continue to be one of the busiest single ambulance agencies in the area with our call volume averaging 900 emergency requests in addition to countless standbys and special events! In 2020, we are celebrating our 66th year of service to Hillsdale and our surrounding Pascack Valley Community! Generations later, we’re still here looking out for all of our residents and visitors to the area alike. And as always, we have never billed a patient for our services. We DO NOT receive any Federal funding, so our volunteers can only continue to provide free pre-hospital care to you, your family and friends, and your neighbors because of your generous donations. We are an independent non-profit entity and, as such, we rely heavily on your support to fund our ambulance, equipment, training, and operating expenses. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to serving you and your families for years to come!

FIFA is officially underway with the first game at MetLife stadium taking place today. Hillsdale is proud to help support the EMS response plan for Bergen County as a consistent “low ready” agency. This means our department is scheduled as normal and continues operations covering our primary area but would be eligible to be called as part of a large scale response. Although there was also opportunity to be deployed on standby closer to the stadium, our agency only operates with one ambulance, and felt that our priority is to our residents and visitors to Hillsdale and the Pascack Valley. Thank you to all of our members that continually volunteer their time to respond to the needs of our community and also be available to cover the greater needs of Bergen County should they arise!

Member Spotlight🚑

Meet Genevieve
Genevieve is one of our EMTs that rides with us on Monday nights.
Outside of HVAS, Genevieve is a third-year student at UW–Madison and volunteers with Hackensack Meridian Health when she’s home on breaks. When she’s not studying or volunteering, she loves embracing the cold weather by ice skating and skiing.
Fun fact that Genevieve wants to share is that she was ambidextrous as a child! While she now writes with her right hand, she’s still left-hand dominant when it comes to dribbling a basketball and using scissors.
Genevieve has been a member of HVAS for almost two years. When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, she shared:
“I’ve really enjoyed the friendships I’ve made through HVAS, as well as being able to care for and support my community in a meaningful way.”

Today, Hillsdale and River Vale emergency service agencies along with the Hackensack University Medical Center Air Medical Team, hosted a large-scale simulated car crash to drive home the devastating consequences of driving while intoxicated. The senior class at Pascack Valley High School, received a powerful and emotional demonstration aimed at educating students on the real-life consequences of reckless and impaired driving. Designed to leave a lasting impression, the event featured a realistic simulation of a fatal motor vehicle crash, complete with live emergency response, trauma care, and air medical transport. Adding to the emotional depth of the demonstration, student actors and actresses from the senior class portrayed victims and survivors of the crash - creating a powerful, peer-driven message that hits close to home for the student body. Certified student first responders were also part of the event demonstrating to their peers that they can be part of the group that makes a difference when these unfortunate events take place.

Please share this post to reinforce the importance of making safe, responsible choices - especially as students approach graduation and summer activities. Talk to your children about making smart decisions.
This program is not just about shock value, it is about giving students a real look at what can happen in a matter of seconds — and empowering them to make life-saving decisions.

The event emphasizes the strong partnership between educators, first responders, and medical professionals, all working together to safeguard and educate the next generation. This impactful presentation was organized and hosted in collaboration with the Hillsdale Police Department, HD Ambulance, HD Fire, and River Vale Ambulance, RV Fire, HUMC Air Medical Team, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, PV TV Production, PV Theater and PV High School Administration.

Special thank you to Councilman Anthony DeRosa for documenting the event through his camera lens for the world to see! Additional special thanks to Westwood Ambulance for loaning their rig due to mechanical issues with RVVAC’s rig.

Today our crew attended the Family Fun Day at the Farm sponsored by Stew Leonard’s, Demarest Farms and Farmlind Produce! This is the first of two big events at the farm for this weekend!

The event was held to help support swim lessons for underprivileged children from Stewie the Duck swim schools. Unfortunately, drowning is the leading cause of death in children under the age of 4. Stew Leonard’s Water Safety Foundation is trying to reduce that number and will use the funds raised today to help meet that goal!

We hope you will join us at Sunday morning’s Emergency Services Special Olympics 5K! Come out for a great cause, meet our members and help make a difference in the world!

Yesterday, members of the Hillsdale Ambulance supported the efforts of the Hillsdale Police Department and other local agencies as they proudly participated in the 43rd Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey.

The Torch Run is a statewide event that brings together law enforcement officers and community members to raise awareness and support for Special Olympics athletes. Officers carry the “Flame of Hope” through communities across New Jersey, symbolizing courage, inclusion, and the unwavering spirit of the athletes they serve.

We were honored to be asked to support this wonderful tradition and stand alongside our fellow first responders in support of Special Olympics New Jersey.

Special thanks to for capturing these pictures and sharing them with the community.

In the early morning hours of June 3rd, at approximately 00:55 AM, Hillsdale Ambulance Service was requested by the Hillsdale Fire Department to respond to a reported dwelling fire on Piermont Avenue.
Upon arrival, our duty crew established EMS Branch and immediately began the evaluation and treatment of six patients affected by the incident. Due to the scale of the response, mutual aid EMS agencies were requested to assist with patient care and transport, including Rivervale Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Hackensack EMS (BLS/ALS), Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Old Tappan Volunteer First Aid Corps, and Emerson Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Following the transport of patients to local hospitals, Hillsdale Ambulance Service and our mutual aid partners remained on scene for approximately three additional hours, providing firefighter rehabilitation and medical monitoring to crews operating at the fire.
We would like to thank all responding agencies for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to serving our communities during this incident.

Happy EMS Week! Day 7: EMS Remembrance Day 🚑❤️

Today, we honor and remember the EMS personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Additionally, today we came together with and to partake in the NJ leg of the 50 states, 50 days, 500 miles military mental health public awareness campaign and fundraiser. Former member Jake Prusha and current EMT Bella Zimmerman and HPD Sgt Dave Sayers organized today’s run to bring the community together to support this worthy cause. EMS Remembrance Day serves as a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness shown by providers who devoted their lives to serving others. The same is true for all of our devoted military service men and women that paid the ultimate sacrifice either in battle or through the mental battles they fought after returning home.

Every call answered represents a commitment to helping those in need, often in difficult and unpredictable circumstances. We recognize the sacrifices made not only by these responders and service members, but also by their families, friends, and fellow providers who continue to carry their memory forward.

Today and every day, we remember their service, their compassion, and their lasting impact on the communities they served and on their service to this country.
