🎓 Congratulations to our newest academy graduates!

Congratulations to Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Conner Mack, Joel Preusser and Jason Daniels, who graduated from the 81st Session of the Zone Five Regional Law Enforcement Academy on August 28.

The academy session began February 6 and brought together recruits representing 21 law enforcement agencies from across the region. The Zone Five Regional Law Enforcement Academy provides recruits with comprehensive training based on curriculum established and regulated by New York State and federal agencies, preparing them for the responsibilities and challenges of serving their communities.

A special shoutout to Deputy Daniels, who was recognized with an award for Excellence in Arrest Techniques! 👏

Please join us in congratulating Deputies Mack, Preusser and Daniels — and all of the graduates of the 81st Session — on this accomplishment!

If your home or business has sustained damage from this (July 29, 2026) heavy rain & flash flooding weather event, please use the New York State Damage Self-Reporting Tool to report your damages.

Submitting a report does not guarantee FEMA assistance, but it helps New York State assess the overall impact of the storm. If the damage is significant enough, New York State may request a Presidential Disaster Declaration, which is required before any FEMA Assistance can be considered.

Please note that this reporting tool is only for damage to homes and businesses. Damage to public buildings, roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure is reported through a separate process by local governments and a limited number of eligible nonprofit organizations.

STATE OF EMERGENCY & TRAVEL ADVISORY – COLUMBIA COUNTY

Due to widespread flooding and the potential for additional heavy rainfall, Columbia County has declared a State of Emergency and issued a countywide Travel Advisory, effective 10:00 AM today through 7:00 AM tomorrow, unless extended or rescinded.

Residents are urged to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. If you must travel, use extreme caution, never drive through flooded roadways, and check for road closures before leaving.
