The Orange County Board of Commissioners has officially proclaimed September 2026 as Orange County Preparedness Month.

Disasters—whether hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, or disease outbreaks—can strike at any time. North Carolina continues to experience a high volume of disasters, to include severe weather, flooding events, and extreme temperatures. So far this year, Orange County has experienced multiple watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service for severe weather and flooding.

These events are reminders of the importance of preparation.

Visit https://www.orangecountync.gov/650/Disaster-Emergency-Preparedness to learn how to:
- Create an emergency supply kit
- Make a family disaster plan
- Sign up for OC Alerts. If we can’t reach you, we can’t alert you!
If you use Hillsborough water or sewer services, make sure you are registered to receive emergency notifications from the Town of Hillsborough. To sign up for water and sewer alerts for Hillsborough, check the box for your provider under the Community Alerts section of the registration.
