Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Hillsboro, Illinois As such, his is the largest law enforcement agency in the county.

The MCSO is committed to protecting the peace and safety of each resident & community throughout Montgomery County by enforcing laws, holding offenders accountable, & working to maintain the trust of the public we serve. The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for the county and serves as the acting officer of the Circuit Court and director of safety and administrator of the county jail.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has a Sheriff, Undersheriff, Chief Deputy, Jail Administrator, eleven Patrol Deputies including two Patrol Sergeants and two Investigators as well as twelve Telecommunicators, six Correctional Officers, one Office Administrator, Jail Chief Cook, Maintenance personnel and one K-9 Unit.

The majority of loose cattle in the Fillmore area have been recovered. There are still several loose and we urge you to continue to use caution while traveling in the area.
The MCSO would like to thank the first responders, volunteers and all those who took part in recovering the cattle and keeping our citizens and roadways safe.

PLEASE USE CAUTION - LOOSE CATTLE

Please use caution if you are traveling on Burg Road between Illinois Route 185 and into the Village of Fillmore. There is still a large number of cows running loose. The owners are in the area attempting to locate and secure the cows. If possible please avoid the area. If you are unable to avoid the area please use extreme caution. Please slow down and watch for cows, horses, or ATV's that may be on the roadway.

National Police Week is May 10-16, 2026.

This week, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office joins communities across the nation in recognizing National Police Week. We honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who serve with courage, integrity and dedication each and every day.

We also remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and keep their families, friends and fellow officers in our thoughts. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The Hillsboro Police Department Partners and HCUD #3 are partnering with The Autism Hero Project to launch the Blue Envelope Program in our community.

This program is designed to help improve communication and understanding during interactions between first responders and individuals on the autism spectrum.

On the evening of 4/22/26 a male passenger of a traffic stop began to choke and could not breathe. MCSO Deputy Sgt Holliday and MCSO Deputy Murzynski quickly recognized the situation and performed a life saving technique. Due to the Deputies attention to detail and quick decision making they successfully dislodged the object obstructing the males airway and requested further medical assistance. Sheriff Holshouser and MCSO presented certificates of appreciation to the Deputies for their life saving actions.
