Sheriff Dave Marshak announces charges in a second homicide investigation from 9-10-26 that left a man dead.
63-year-old Catherine M. Koechling of Imperial is charged with Domestic Assault – 1st Degree – Serious Physical Injury and Armed Criminal Action for allegedly shooting 61-year-old Eric Koechling at the couple’s home in the 2600 block of Breakwater Drive.
Deputies responded to the home around 9:00 p.m. for a report of a shooting and found the victim outside and bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies immediately established a perimeter around the home and provided protection for EMS personnel to safely treat the victim.
The victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
The suspect barricaded herself inside the home and refused commands to come out. The Sheriff’s Office Crisis Response Team and SWAT Team were dispatched to the scene and continued efforts to safely resolve the barricade.
After several hours of negotiation, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Catherine Koechling was admitted to a hospital for treatment unrelated to her arrest, but is expected to ultimately be held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
Investigation revealed the suspect and victim had recently divorced. This was the second domestic-related homicide that deputies responded to yesterday. Both investigations remain active.
The Sheriff's Office would like to thank the members of the Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office, under Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanski, for quickly securing an arrest warrant.
We'd also like to acknowledge the hard work of deputies, detectives, crisis negotiators, SWAT members, crime scene analysts, and all others who've been involved in the recent homicide cases in Jefferson County.

‼️MURDER CHARGE & VICTIM ID‼️
Sheriff Dave Marshak announces charges in a homicide investigation that left a woman dead.
49-year-old Corey R. Bicklein of House Springs is charged with Murder – 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action for allegedly shooting and killing 49-year-old Sarah Bicklein on September 10th in the couple’s home in the 6200 block of Dulin Creek Road.
Bicklein was taken into custody without incident after Crisis Response and SWAT teams spent hours persuading him to surrender. He is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
The response to this incident was truly a team effort, and the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office would like to extend a sincere thank you for the assistance provided by other agencies, including the Arnold MO Police Department, Jefferson College Police Department, Rock Community Fire Protection District, City of Crystal City Police Department, City of Festus Police Department, Cedar Hill Fire Protection District, Big River Ambulance District, Jefferson County 9-1-1 Dispatch Official, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in St. Louis, and the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Thanks also to the Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office, under Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanski, for moving quickly to obtain the arrest warrant.

Homicide Investigation – Imperial

Last night at approximately 9:00 P.M., deputies responded to the 2600 block of Breakwater in Imperial for a reported shooting.

Deputies arrived and located the victim across the street from the suspect’s residence, seated in a lawn chair and holding a towel against his chest in an attempt to control the bleeding. Deputies immediately established a perimeter around the suspect’s residence while providing protection for EMS personnel to safely reach and treat the victim.

Our Crisis Response Team and SWAT were dispatched to the scene as deputies continued efforts to safely resolve the barricade. After several hours, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

This was the second domestic-related homicide our deputies responded to yesterday. Both investigations remain active, and additional information will be released when appropriate.

It's been 25 years. But for some, the memories are still as fresh as yesterday.
Today, we honor those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001. And we salute the service, sacrifice, and legacy of the first responders who died saving others that day and years later as a result of their work at Ground Zero.

Sgt. Clardy's shop will open at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Closing time will depend on remaining stock. So get there early because we expect to sell out!

***HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION***
Detectives are investigating a homicide at a home in the 6200 block of Dulin Creek Road.
The initial call was received by Jefferson County 9-1-1 Dispatch Official around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10th.
As Road Patrol Deputies and SWAT team members surrounded the home, negotiators made contact with an adult man inside.
After roughly five hours of negotiating, the man came outside and surrendered. He was taken into custody without incident.
SWAT Team members then entered the home and found an adult woman deceased.
The scene was turned over to detectives, and the investigation is ongoing.
More information will be released as it’s deemed appropriate.
This is an outstanding example of teamwork between multiple divisions within the Sheriff’s Office as well as outside agencies.
