Earlier this year Brock left this earth for a better place. He was a big supporter of our business but more importantly a great friend of mine who I can never replace. His son Mason is my friend too, as well as former employee, and is taking over Brocks drone business. Please give his page a follow.

As many of you know, we lost my best friend and father back in June. Among the many things dad did, he had a drone business where he would aid people in recovering their lost game. I decided two months ago that I would try to continue this service by acquiring the appropriate licensing needed to be able to operate. After extensive studying, and working with a few people who are much smarter than me I was able to pass the exam and am now licensed to fly. Dad had a page for Ratcliff Drone Services, but I decided to make a “professional page” for people to follow. I wanted to make this post to let all the great folks that dad worked with know that we will still be able to help. I would appreciate it if some folks would share this page and spread the word. Thank you Alex with The Conservationist, LLC for you assistance on preparing and spraying 47 acres for future prairie planting. This prairie will not be planted until next year but most successful prairie plantings start with early preparations. Couple good looking rigs!

We completed vegetation control on 26 acres of rock dam this spring. Controlling trees, shrubs and herbaceous vegetation is important in maintaining the integrity of dams. Some of it we were able to accomplish by using specialized equipment, the rest by pure simple sweat equity. Thankful for my helpers on this one.

We planted around 55 acres of native grass and pollinator habitat this spring- restoring native habitats across southern Ohio and giving the soil a rest. These plantings will be a wildlife mecca in a very short amount of time. We work with CRP, EQIP and all other programs.

The month of May was packed full of projects. I will update more over the next few days as I get time. One of these projects was beginning spraying operations with our partners at Midwest Air LLC . They have worked from dawn to dusk for a week straight without a break to complete a drone spraying project that wasn't for the faint of heart. We have an even bigger project in the works later this month. The mission was to spray woody vegetation on former strip mining land to prepare it for grassland restoration. It was a major undertaking and what we have learned will only make us better. Taking big risks is how big things happen. I just wanted to take a moment to give them a shout out for their hard work and thank them for their partnership and willingness to take on a very difficult project.

This fall we partnered with Midwest Air to drone spray Bush Honeysuckle over top of a mature woodland canopy. As far as we could tell this had not yet been documented in Ohio. We were cautiously optimistic during the entire process, but the results we discovered this spring after greenup blew us away. We documented the process as well as the results, which can be found in the video in comments

It is my hope that our experience during this experiment as well as the data that will be collected will assist in bringing in a new and exciting eradication process for Bush Honeysuckle and other invasives across Ohio.

We completed a prescribed fire on a previous Oak Shelterwood cut for a landowner and it went well. This fire will reduce the number of undersireable woody species and promote future oak regeneration. Thank you to Kestrel Prescribed Fire Solutions, LLC for our prescribed fire partnership and leadership on completing this burn. Thank you to Advanced Habitat Management and all the rest of our great crew as well.

Perhaps most importantly however is that we are thankful to work with landowners such as this one, who exemplify what it means to be a good steward of the land. This landowner has went above and beyond to demonstrate what responsible and sustainable forestry and timber harvest practices look like- and should be an example to all woodland landowners interested in managing timber.
