Diversity is not our problem - it is our promise. As Highland County Democrats, we respect differences of perspective and belief, and pledge to work together with our neighbors to move our county forward, even when we disagree. We do not merely seek common ground - we strive to reach higher ground. Highland County Democrats are dedicated to ensuring a stronger and more just future for every Americ
an, starting with our own community. What We Believe
We believe America is much more than a nation, it’s an idea that has endured through war and depression, prevailed over fascism and communism, and radiated hope to distant corners of the earth. When Highland County voters go to the polls this fall, we will be deciding on more than a candidate. Character is on the ballot in this election; not just the character of our democracy, our society, and American leadership in the world, and not just the character of our national leaders. Democracy starts, survives and thrives with local politics. We believe the character of our local elected officials is just as important as that of candidates on the national stage. As Americans and Democrats, we believe that diversity is our greatest strength, that our fates and fortunes rise and fall together, and that even when we fall short of our highest ideals, we must never stop trying to build a more perfect union. As Democrats, we believe we must make it easier to vote, not harder. As Democrats, we believe that the economy should work for everyone, that health care is a right, that our diversity is our strength, and that democracy, and the two party system, is worth defending. Most importantly, as Highland County Democrats, we believe this is a good place to live, but it can be better, it can be more inclusive, and it can more fully reflect the goals and beliefs of all its residents. What We Do
The Highland County Democratic Party is committed to electing Democrats everywhere – from the school board to the Oval Office. We support local candidates that identify as Democrats, with paperwork, signage, events, and when possible, with campaign contributions. We support Democratic candidates in statewide races by providing opportunities to meet local voters, encouraging our members to vote and display signs, and promoting their campaign events that are within driving distances. Locally, we help voters register properly. No matter how many voters we turn out to the polls, Democrats can’t win if voters are kept from registering to vote, kicked off voter rolls, or face barriers when casting their ballots. Like many across the country, Highland County Democrats are working hard to encourage a calmer, kinder, more equitable America by engaging in civil discussion and thoughtful dissent as we participate in local events like the Highland County Fair, and host special events for our members, candidates and representatives. What We Need
We need good people to step up, stand up and speak up. We need good people to share their ideas, their thoughts and their support. We need Democrats, and those who believe in the two-party system that has served our nation well for over 200 years, to stop being quiet and not be afraid to speak. How Can You Become Involved
