World War I US Army soldier Lt. Col. William Donovan photographed in Hazavant, France on the 6 September 1918.

Donovan is the only person to have received all four of the United States' highest awards: the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal, and the National Security Medal. He is also a recipient of the Silver Star and Purple Heart, as well as decorations from a number of other nations for his service during both World Wars. He is best known for serving as the head of the Office of Strategic Services during the Second World War.
