Hills Fire Department & Hills Firefighters Association This is the official page of the Hills Fire Department & First Responders and Hills Firefighter's Association in Hills, Iowa.

It is jointly operated by both groups. The Hills Fire Department is an all-volunteer fire department comprised of 23 members that dedicate their own free time to respond to calls-for-service. Established in 1906, the Hills Fire Department has grown to serve the needs of our community and those who travel through it daily. We are located within the City of Hills, Iowa which is in South-Central John

son County in Eastern Iowa. The Hills Fire Department is proud to provide fire, EMS and rescue services for the protection and preservation of life & property for the City of Hills and surrounding areas, including the townships of Liberty, East Lucas, West Lucas, Pleasant Valley, and Sharon, covering approximately 64 sq/miles total. In this area we cover approximately 8 miles of 4-lane highway (US Hwy 218) and approximately 14 miles of Iowa River waterways. The department also provides multiple surrounding departments with mutual aid assistance as they need. The department responds to approximately 400 calls-for-service annually with 6 apparatus and 1 rescue boat.

Come on out to Music in the Park at Hills City Park this Thursday! Listen to some good music by The Schmidt Brothers, and see us there! We will have trucks available for viewing and will be selling walking tacos as a fundraiser for the department!

Construction on X14/Wapsi Ave SE between Highway 22 and 520th Street will begin Tuesday, June 2.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane during working hours and controlled by flaggers and pilot cars. Both lanes will be open to traffic at night except for unusual circumstances.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by early August 2026.

All vehicles must be moved from the streets and alleys. Any cars in violation could be towed at the owners expense.
