Imagine A World Without Art
This is hard to do yet there are segments which do not have access to that which we sometimes take for granted. Take for instance the visually impaired, elderly, poor and handicapped who may not have access to art programs such as workshops and classes or may not be able to visit art venues because of physical or economic limitations. Our mission is to make art accessab

le to segments which would not otherwise have access to it through the following programs.
• Our Non-Visual Art for the visually impaired translates paintings in sculptural relief using heating and cooling elements to indicate where the warm and cool tones occur in the art enabling the person experiencing it to process an image in their mind without seeing it.
• Artist workshops/retreats for the handicapped, elderly and underprivileged are customized to suit each individual segments needs and are designed to be therapeutic educational and fun.
• Art Exhibitions offer art for public spaces at no cost to institutions which do not have a budget for it.

Today is Center For Accessible Art's Birthday! On this date 5 years ago we got the letter from the IRS granting CFAA 501c3 nonprofit status. The application consisted of a stack of legal documents about a half an inch tall which took months to create and had been filed about a year prior to getting the final approval. Since then we have worked with a wide range of ages and demographics. From 4th graders in an underprivledged area to seniors in a retirement community I have learned that we all have the same needs. Art is the thread that weaves everyone together. To gather and be creative as a group satisfies the most primitive instinct for us as humans. I like to think CFAA makes a difference in peoples lives and I can only speculate about the impact we have. I can say without speculation the benefit I have gained from my work here. I have made great friendships and grown from the wisdom of those friends both young and old. Overall my life has been richer having done what to some would have been a "waste of time" or "too much work". So... long live Center For Accessible Art and every great organization like it!
