Last night’s Board of Education meeting included several important leadership updates.

The Board approved Beth Rihtar as the new director of technology and innovation and Lauren Laudick as the new director of early childhood. Both will begin their new roles July 1. We're excited to have them join the team!

The meeting also marked the final Board meeting for Dr. Mike Lubelfeld as superintendent and Jeremy Davis as assistant superintendent for business services. Board members thanked both leaders for their service and contributions to District 112.

Recently, we took a moment to recognize and thank our bus drivers during an end-of-year celebration.

Our drivers play such an important role in District 112. They help students start and end each school day safely, and we are grateful for the care and patience they bring to their work.

Thank you to our bus drivers for all you do for our students and families! 🚌

Sherwood is getting closer to being ready for students in August, and a lot has changed across the building.

Inside, renovated classrooms and corridors are moving through final finish work. Library flooring is complete, classroom storage and built-in features are nearly finished, kitchen equipment is being connected, and the gym is taking shape with its new floor, striping and finishing work.

Outside, crews are working on playground installation, landscaping, parking areas and final exterior details. Furniture delivery is also beginning soon, which is one of those big steps that starts to make the building feel like a school again.

There is still work ahead this summer, but Sherwood is moving closer to the finish line for the 2026-2027 school year!

What do plants need to live and grow?

First graders are wrapping up the school year in the Grow, Plants, Grow! module for ELA. This week, they read “Yum! ¡MmMm! ¡Qué Rico!” by Pat Mora, a collection of haiku poems about foods native to the Americas.

Students explored how poets use describing words and sound patterns to help readers picture what they are reading. They also practiced asking and answering questions about a text while using details to support their thinking.

It’s a strong way to close the year and gives first graders a chance to show how much they have grown as readers and writers.

Last night was a meaningful celebration of a career that has shaped District 112 in so many ways.

As Dr. Lubelfeld prepares to retire, colleagues, family members, friends and community members gathered to thank him for his leadership and service to public education.

His impact will continue to be felt in the work that has strengthened our schools and helped create meaningful experiences for children across our community. Dr. Lubelfeld has been a steady advocate for public schools and for the people who make them work.

Congratulations, Dr. Lubelfeld. Thank you for all you have given to our school community.
